Hi, all,
Just started using Derm but am having problems. It won't colour my scalp (I've used a water filter so it's not due to hard water) and it doesn't seem to be thickening up the hairs, not to the extent where the hairloss is unnoticable, anyway. Am I expecting too much? The small area where I'm having the most problems is where there is the least hair, but I still anticipated better. Help! :(

Try Fibres Nanogen or Toppic instead they're much better.

Yeah, the shake on fibers work very well.
Prothik is also effective and easy to use.
I hear good things about dermmatch, but it just looks like it would be a pain in the *** to use.

fibers like toppik are great as long as
1) don't care about messing up your bathroom
2 ) don't swim
3 )don't get caught in rain with no umbrella or hat

check my reply to the "dermatch help needed post" .
Oh , if you wanna try fibers , the why not try Hair So Real? Much cheper than others

1) Whats messy about them? You only need a small sprinkle (I only use about 3/4 jars a year) and it goes on your head nowhere else and even so Fibres are like ultra fine dust. I apply mine in the bedroom and my carpet is cream coloured and I've never had any mess.
2) Well thats a given theres no way I'd swim in dermatch either.
3) Fibres can handle wind and rain no problem unless you stand in the heaviest downpour until you're completly soaked.

s.a.f , if you only use 3/4 of a jar A YEAR then you probably don't need concealers at all , or have a VERY small area to cover.

I am a norwood 6 , had 6 transplant procedures all over the area and now have a decent base for concealers . A jar ( the giant 50 gr jar in particular ) won't last me but a few months.

Second , i use fibers ( i used to , to be exact ) for 4 years. I tried it with and without the spray maximizer. Using it in my bathroom , after a couple days the sink and mirror was covered with brown dust . A couple of days more and the brown dust was everywere in the bathroom , on shelves , on tubs , everywhere . It is indded a fine dust , but it is a brown dust , and it visible. Now if you have a special trick to share , on how to apply fibers without the mess , please do so . I have discussed the subject many times with other users and nobody had an answer to the problem. And by the way , dermatch is messy too but much much less than fibers.

As for the rain and swimming problem . Yes , fibers can last a mild rain , how mild i don't know cause i never tried it under real circumstances. But, fibers cannot stand swiiming. Now if you swim a lot like i do that can be a problem. Also , when i was using fibers , i had an issue with heavy perspitation , "the grean sweat " problem we've all heard of.

Sorry for the poor English

Ok, I'm in the same boat as you former NW6 had 5 hair transplant's and I definatley do need the added effect of concealers but I dont try for a full coverage thick looking head of hair I just go for a mild improvement. That way although I still look like I have thin hair and a pretty bad crown at least I'm not going to look totaly unnatural.
The instructional vids you see on youtube with guys holding a jar upside down and pouring half a jar onto a baldspot to make it disapear completely are crazy.

How do I apply it?
Well I stand infront of the mirror hold the jar about 5/6" from my head pointing it upwards at a 45 degree angle and I just give my wrist a little flick and a small amount comes out.
The fibres are so light and fine that they actualy float slowly down and if any is going off course then I have time to move my head in the direction for them to settle on my hair. The worst that I get is some settles on my forehead and after I've finished I just wipe it off with a damp tissue. I do about 5 flicks back, middle, front, left side, right side and thats it - takes less than a middle.

The 'magic' happens when you run your hands through your hair to get the fibres to bond.Hope that helps.
I've heard of all the Toppic scare stories green sweat, flourescent lighting ect, but I use nanogen and have never had a problem.

If I run my head under a shower they still dont come off they have to be shampooed out.
PS cant remember the last time I went swimming as far as I'm concerned public swimming and concealers dont mix period.

Unless you try shaking the fibers on your head in a wind storm, I don't see how it's that messy. I've been using hair so real recently and the only place the stuff goes is onto my head. I use prothik as well, and haven't had many problems with it being messy. When I first got it, based on the stories I'd read, I thought my bathroom walls were going to end up the same color as the prothik I sprayed onto my head. That's not happening, though. The concealers stay on very well, but you'll never catch me swimming with any of them. Not a big fan of public pools, anyway. The idea of swimming around in what is basically a giant urinal (tell me you've never peed in one) isn't that appealing.

I think, like everything else, it takes time, many people say they've used this or that and haven't like it, so never re-used it. The first time I used Nanofibres I threw it everywhere, breathed some in, missed most of my head, and generally screwed up quite badly!

But now I've been using it for ages, I can do it pre-coffee in the morning (1 of 4 tasks I'm actually capable of, so it must be easy) and it looks right, all the time. I wouldn't be without it at all.
It isn't waterproof and I do use DermMatch on occasion when expecting heavy rain, but even when it come out it doesn't really look like anything wierd, you get a few bits in the rain running down your face, but you can't see them unless you go up to someones face and peer at them through a magnifying glass.
I actually swim regularly (thanks thetodd I'm going to be thinking of that the next few times I go...go TO the pool, not GO IN the pool I should point out!) but I just shower before (and now vigorously after to remove urine, I think I'm gonna be sick) but showering before removes everything, and loads of normal people look like they have thin hair when its wet.

Sorry ramble and a half there. To summarise: Try try again.

I used dermmatch for a while. It was good at first. But after 2 months or so the disk dried up. Then it was a pain to apply.

Dermmatch hides scalp well, but in sun light people will wonder why your scalp is brown. That is why I'd use just a bit. I'd still look balding, but not quite as obvious.

Thats the key to using concealers just aim for a slight improvement, if you try going for the maximum head of hair it will end up looking ridiculous.
