has anybody here ever gone to see an endocrinologist?

Doctors specializing in hormones etc was unknown to me up until recently. I am now seriously considering making an appointment at a private clinic to see an endocrinologist. I´ve been seeing derms for ten years and none of them has helped out with acne nor hair loss. Thinking it must be time to find out what´s really going on inside my body.
Would be good to hear if anyone has got any experiences with endocrinologists? :)

I go to an endocrinologist for thyroid issues. An endocrinologist is more for diabetics, pituitary problems, adrenal glands or thyroid problems. He can check you for those problems and hormonal imbalances but they don't treat hair loss or acne directly. That is what the dermatologist does. They only treat underlying medical problems that may cause hair loss or acne. Thyroid issues can cause hair loss. However, hair loss due to the thyroid would be more diffuse and your hair would be dry and break off alot. I honestly think for acne treatments find a good dermatologist and for hair loss consult with a good hair transplant doctor in your area. My endo knows I have issues about my hair but he does not treat them as he knows Propecia and minoxidil are what you need to treat hair loss and since I am using them there is nothing more he can do for my hair. If my thyroid eventually starts to show abnormal levels he will treat me for my thyroid but not for my hair loss.

Yeah see, I want to know if my problems are linked somehow through an underlying cause, like hormonal imbalance etc. I´m talking to the clinic to find out if they can help me out, and the nurse was going to discuss it with the Doctor.
When you´ve tried all sorts of antibiotics and even accutane with no luck, carrying acne with you into your mid-twenties, I think there must be something more seriously wrong. Personally I think inhibiting DHT systemically might be the solution but I´m no doctor.

I just received my Propecia today, would it be wise to get my bloodwork done (for the tests to be examined by the Doctor) before starting it?

Yes!!! Do baseline tests before you start Propecia. As far as acne, alot of adults in their 30's 40's 50's and 60's still get acne so if you are prone for it, you will always have to fight it. I do believe acne can be triggered by the foods you eat and stress. I break out if I eat fried foods, salty foods, or if I am sick or stressed. I am in my 40's. I used accutane and it never cured my acne. I think Propecia can sometimes help with acne too.

The long standing idea that diet in reality had nothing to do with acne has been thoroughly disproved in recent years. If you are experiencing dietary issues causing or exacerbating your acne then in all likely hood those same dietary issues are also causing elevated levels of stress. My acne was completely cured (finafuckingly) by my medically necessary diet, there are however plenty of other reasons for acne.

Greetings,
the clinic got back to me today and the doctor said chances are slim that there are endocrin causes for my problems, however he suggested that I would get a morning sample of the following;
LH
FSH
testosterone
SHBG
HCG
hemoglobin
SR
cortisone

He welcomed me to send them the results for consideration. I reckon I should have them done soon so I get on with trying out finasteride..
