Yeah well, i hate everybody and everything, beat that. Pussy.

Hey Gardener, i think you ought to pack in your day job and come to sunny England to teach English at our 'great' comprehensives... We currently have a crisis in core skills such as English grammer and maths. I have a free room under my stairs where you can stay till you sort yourself out. Forget the sun, sand and bikini wearing tanned women.

Does my prolonged use of.....doing that in my messages annoy you?

P.S How tall are you? You may not fit. mmm

Petchsky,

I'm 5'10", and a very lean and muscular 170 lbs with nice legs and ***. You had better be careful when inviting a Californian into your fine realm. Sure, I will have your entire block speaking in complete sentences and using proper grammar, but I will also convince them of the benefits of smoking weed and the proper usage of the word 'dude'.

Do you have a tanning salon nearby? No need for the beach, we'll be frequenting the salon after smoking a fattie at 4:20pm every Friday. I figure the tanning will give time for the ladies to reach their weed high pinnacle, and then it's bikini time back at the house! Ahem!

No annoyances here with your use of ellipses. They are a grammatically correct form of punctuation to express pauses in quoted speech.

I think the experienced posters should write such a FAQ including Bryan's scientific and ty's animated graphs. That work would be fastly amortized.

I think Gardie's true intentions with this thread are "cumming out" and wanting all of us to be gay with him. I'm in.

Gardener, I think you're misusing that word! Ellipses (in this context, a series of periods: .... ) don't express pauses in quoted speech. They stand for omissions in quoted speech. For example, I might want to quote from a study I just finished reading, but I don't want to type out a whole passage, just certain relevant parts. Therefore, I might write the following short sentence:

"Many approved drugs have side-effects....and gynecomastia in Proscar users."

See what I mean? The periods are to show that I snipped out a lot of extraneous material that didn't need to get repeated here. It wasn't really to express a PAUSE, it was just an indication of written economy, and that what I wrote wasn't an exact word-for-word reproduction of the published material! :)

I think this thread should be ended, else someone will get pissy.

Or take it over to the discussion forum on http://www.analretentiveenglishteacher.com.

This is a hairloss forum, unfortunately male pattern baldness effects everyone not just the 'grammatically elite'. Laziness in people's grammar can be annoying but you can't expect everyone to be perfect.

Like male pattern baldness, we must except this and move on.

Love you.xxx

Sorry I meant 'accept', which you obviously can't do.

You should be a school teacher.

Oh, I can _easily_ accept; what I can't do is read other posters' minds. Do you see how the sloppy use of language can lead to ambiguity?

Indeed. But you can be glad I'm not YOUR school teacher! You'd flunk! :)

I originally posted to try and put a light-hearted end to a thread that looked like it was about to start offending people.

It looks like I have failed and only succeeded in becoming annoyed myself. I wont enter this thread again and I will leave it to the people that get off on 'how intelligent they are' and 'how stupid they can make other people look'.

Which is something I find unproductive and sad.

Sorry, incorrect usage, Bryan. Correctly used, ellipses should be a series of three dots, preceeded and followed by a space.

Using your example above:

"Many approved drugs have side-effects .... and gynecomastia in Proscar users."
