Which did you REALLY mean: "we must expect this" or "we must accept this"??

Oh, I can _easily_ accept; what I can't do is read other posters' minds. Do you see how the sloppy use of language can lead to ambiguity?
neiltom88 said:You should be a school teacher.
Indeed. But you can be glad I'm not YOUR school teacher! You'd flunk!![]()

Gardener, I think you're misusing that word! Ellipses (in this context, a series of periods: .... ) don't express pauses in quoted speech. They stand for omissions in quoted speech. For example, I might want to quote from a study I just finished reading, but I don't want to type out a whole passage, just certain relevant parts. Therefore, I might write the following short sentence:
"Many approved drugs have side-effects....and gynecomastia in Proscar users."
See what I mean? The periods are to show that I snipped out a lot of extraneous material that didn't need to get repeated here. It wasn't really to express a PAUSE, it was just an indication of written economy, and that what I wrote wasn't an exact word-for-word reproduction of the published material!![]()
