Hairloss regimen without minoxidil

Well I've already posted in the "My Story" section and got some good advice there but I was hoping to expand on it. To paraphrase what I said there, I used minoxidil for a few years to regrow hair on my crown but I eventually began experiencing side effects from it and will no longer use it (terrible dizziness and some palpiations which stopped almost immediately after I stopped taking it). Someone told me to get Nizoral in the earlier section, so I've already ordered that, but what else should I do?

I've lost a decent amount but it still appears fixable, I would guess a Norwood 2 since I still have some in the top/center. My temples have receded a bit and my crown appears to be thinning again but the frontal hairline is the most prominent problem. I really would like to maintain what I have now and worry about regrowth in the future, if at all. So:

1. I'm guessing finasteride is a must if I want to maintain my hair, correct? I am a little wary of the side effects but I might as well try it before I knock it. Can people direct me to a good place to buy it, I've heard on the order of $90 for 100 at 5mg each taht can be cut up.

2. Anything else I can use topically? spironolactone or Copper Peptides? If so, where can these be found for a good price. Tricomin sounds decent but is a little expensive...I would probably get it if people recommend it, though.

3. How about supplements, like vitamins? I see people taking a lot of biotin and green tea extract (not sure what Biotin does but green tea inhibits DHT). I was planning on buying these 2 since they appear to be highly agreed upon. Also shoudl I just get these at the grocery store or do you have to order higher strength ones?

4. Any regimen recommendations are appreciated. I let the hairloss go a little too long without treating it (since quitting minoxidil) and it's becoming more and more obvious, making me more concerned about it. Also I wanted to put pictures on here but they kept coming out bad, I could also use some self photographing advice.

Thanks a lot!

I'd honestly just start with finasteride once a day and Nizoral shampoo every 3 days. Leave it in for 5 minutes, then rinse, and follow it with a good quality conditioner.

I'd talk to your doctor about finasteride(Propecia/Proscar) first. If he okays it, and money is an issue, then

Here's a link for cheap good quality generic finasteride:

http://unitedpharmacies.com/Fincar_Gene ... p_346.html

You cut each 5 mg pill into fourths or fifths so you're taking either 1.25 mg or 1 mg of finasteride a day. Doesn't really make much difference, but some people have trouble cutting the pills into fifths with a pill cutter(buy the pill cutter for $5 at your local store), so fourths is fine if you can't manage fifths.

If money isn't a huge issue, then just get your Doctor to write you a script for Proscar(5 mg version of finasteride, Propecia is the 1 mg version), and you can actually get generic finasteride in US pharmacies now for about $250 for a year's supply, assuming you're cutting in fourths. It's cheaper if you're cutting in fifths.

Regardless of how you get it, finasteride and nizoral for one year is your best bit. You'll likely stop your hair loss where it is and may even regrow a bit. I wouldn't add too much sh*t at once becuase you won't know what is giving you the results. I'm a big believer in adding things steadily after giving each thing a few months to work at least.

Good luck

Buy some spironolactone and finasteride tabs from overseas and use them both topically, either separately or combined. Use search for details.

As for where to get them, the least expensive source I've found for spironolactone is http://www.medsranch.com/, and their finasteride prices are at least comparable to other sites. The site appears a mirror of squaremeds.com, but the SSL certificate on the latter has expired, and may be (less?) maintained.

That is incredibly stupid advice. Why would anyone want to pay extra money for nothing?

Dave, shut up

Most people on here can order from overseas pharmacies but a bunch of them still use Proscar from local pharmacies because they feel more comfortable doing so.

Your attack on me was lame and pathetic.

And your advice is the advice that sucks. Advising him to use finasteride topically when it has failed for a lot of people and has never been proven to work? Oral finasteride has been proven to work. Your advice sucks. It just sucks. And so do you

this is why I hesitate to take minoxidil...those side effects sound scary and what else might it be doing to a person??

Jiggymike,

in your situation I wouldn´t stop minoxidil. It might cause a terrible shed for you. Many people don´t realize how good it works for them until they stop and have to face a terrible downfall (literally) of their hair. Did you try the Rogaine foam already? It is much better tolerated than liquid minoxidil. Good Luck to you!
