Hair System 6 Months After Fue - Will It Affect The Transplanted Hair?

6 months ago I had a 5000 graft hair transplant. It looks okay but the result is pretty thin so far and the hairline is still quite high.

My plan was to save up for another one but for now I am looking into getting a hair system, the type that is glued on and stays on for several weeks before you go back to the salon and get it refitted. I wanted to test this out for a bit and if I get used to it I may stick with it otherwise I'll go for a second transplant. My main worry is will this damage the result of my hair transplant?

I was worried about the glue pulling out the grafts when it is taken off. Would this have any chance of happening after 6 months or would it only likely happen in the early stages? I'm also wondering would the glue or the fact that a wig is constantly on my head affect the transplant at all?

I've seen similar questions asked but it is usually about cases where the poster is a week to a month post op.

Hi Gazza

If you wear a system you will be shaving your transplanted hair off every week or so, so there won't really be any hair there for the system to affect. To be on the safe side you should make sure you release the system completely with alcohol on the occasions when you take it off, so that you won't be pulling on your stubble, and for that purpose a glue attachment at your hairline is better than tape. Provided you take those precautions it should be fine. Actually probably fine anyway, but you don't want to take any risks if you may want to use the transplanted hair later.

Another possibility since the hairline is on the high side is you could bring it down lower with the system and keep glue off the transplants altogether. I know a couple of guys who had transplants and wanted to hide the surgery until it grew in, and that is what they did.

Thanks Noah. As far as I understand the system that I would get would stay on for several weeks and then I'd be going back the salon to get a new one fitted and this would repeat every several weeks so I would never actually be adjusting it myself.

I suppose it's still the same scenario though as in the clinic would use alcohol to loosen it first?

You would not necessarily get a new one, depending on the base, it could potentially last up to a year. You would need to get it removed, cleaned, and re-bonded if you went with adhesive. You could, of course, opt for the DIY method, and remove it, shave the hair off underneath, and re-attach it.

Yes, same scenario - just warn them that they have to take extra care to loosen the adhesive before removal because you have transplants underneath. Or you could do it yourself at the salon.

As Baldbearded says, this business of giving you a new system every month is a gimmick. If the system is decent quality it should last at least 3 or 4 months, and probably longer.
