Hi so I started noticing more hair loss than usual around October and since then it’s become worse and has thinned over half I’ve started to count the strands and some days are worse than others I’ve been to my gp who referred me to a dermatologist and I had an appointment yesterday she didn’t even take a look at my hair just told me it’s stress and is sending me for bloods.. the nape of my neck has lost a lot of hair and has started to go up I’ve attached some photos just wondered if anyone could help? The first photo is my hair the beginning of October and the second is from last week

How old are you? Is your dermatologist doing a completed work up thyroid, iron, testosterone? That’s the first step, and yes stress can cause loss, so relaxation therapies can help if you are going through a life altering event time will pass and things will improve.

So it could be hormonal, are you on birth control? If your testosterone is high you may need to balance your hormones, some use spiralactone (sp) I use ground flaxseed to control the DHT which is a converted portion of testosterone that causes hair loss, but if it’s diffuse, all over stress, excess vitamin A, iron deficiency, on the iron your tests may show you in normal range but for hair you need to be at least at 70.

No I’m not on birth control my doctor has said that all my tests for everything are no concern but I’m going to ask for a copy of them so I can see what they have come back as, the loss is all over my mainly the nape of neck and temples, I’ve just had a hair dresser look at it and cut it and she thinks it’s caused from my previous hair dresser leaving the dye on for too long but I’m not convinced that’s the cause. I’ve started to take multi vitamins and vitamin E to see if that helps and also going to try olaplex as heard good reviews from this

Olaplex is fine for existing hair but does not help with hair loss, your issue is systemic, understand that bloodwork shows a range of normal but does not take individual needs into account, good luck

Is there anything you could recommend to help with the loss as i just feel like I’m hitting a dead end with no answers and the dermatologist and my doctor just don’t seem helpful at all it’s thinned so fast I fear it’s just going to continue until there is nothing left everyone just thinks I’m being dramatic but when it’s your own hair you can obviously see the difference more

I know my drs were not helpful at all! Is your skin clear? Do you have any kind of acne? Because that’s a sign of hormonal imbalance, I suggest low dose birth control if it’s a hormonal issue, but your location of hair loss at the base of the neck is unusual, are you under a lot of stress? I know the hair loss itself is stressful! Diffuse hair loss is usually a thyroid issue, low iron, excess vitamin A or retinol, stress, or hormonal, I would make sure you are taking in enough omega 3s, avoid retinol, make sure your iron is at 70, unfortunately we have to be our own detectives. I use two tbsp of ground flaxseed to balance my hormones, and I take viviscal and I use a rosemary Solution I make by boiling rosemary in water then cooling and straining, it’s the final rinse I leave in after washing and conditioning my hair with a DHT blocking shampoo, I also massage the rosemary into my scalp each night before bed, but I’m 70, my shedding has stopped waiting for new growth, usually shedding occurs for about three months typically, so you may be entering the testing phase. And backtrack any changes you’ve made in the last three months changes in diet or hair care products?

My skin is strange at the minute as well I keep getting spots all over that turn into stretch marks and again the dermatologist just said that’s cosmetic but I’ve had no change in weight and I haven’t changed my diet so there must some kind of underlying cause. I did go through some stress a few months ago and then with the hair loss it’s caused me more stress, I’ve had several thyroid tests and a scan and they’ve said that’s not showing anything thanks for the advise I will try this. I haven’t changed hair products in a long time always been using tresemme apart from I’ve recently changed to bed head as was told it’s suppose to be good for hair loss

You skin situation dies not sound normal, red spots that turn into stretch marks, hoping in your case it was the stress and things will reverse, good luck

Yeah it’s definitely not normal but again no help from dr or dermatologist so going private with skin specialist, which will also be next for hair if no improvement so I will update with any help or advise if it comes to that thank you for all your help and I wish you speedy hair growth :)
