Hair Is Beginning To Thin Due To Stress?

Hi Guys,

I'm 23.

I had exams in May/June for like 1.5 months I was stressed out and ate very little. Some days just 1 lite of chocolate milk.

I remember about two years ago my brother began to experience hair thinning and my uncle also said to me that your hair is also thinning, at the time I couldn't see how it was thinning.

Fast forward 2 years and over this exam period I began to visibly see in the mirror my scalp especially when I had not washed my hair, i.e when hair was greasy.

Also when I showered and looked in the mirror I could see my scalp, this was very upsetting I never had this issue before this exam period. After rubbing shampoo in my hair and looking at my hands there is also a lot of hair, this never used to be the case.

As you can imagine this was very upsetting.

After researching hair loss I came to the conclusion that it may have been due to lack of nutrients and bad diet. I have started taking multi vitamins and biotin and focus on improving my diet and reducing stress. One side of me hopes this is the case but the realist in me suspects this is genetics and the stressful period may have sped up the process.

My question is should I also start using rogaine/regaine?

Thanks alot

Maybe I'm in minority but I think hairloss due to stress is a myth. I know people who work very stressful jobs yet still their hairs are afro like. If you're experiencing hairfall, it's more in your genes.

I think it can set off male pattern baldness...

My thinning was set off again by a stressful new job. Before then I was nw2 but thick

I do believe that stress causes hairloss, however the kind of 'stress' that results in hairloss is extreme and usually physical stress like major surgery or some horrific psychological insult.

Your typical life stresses like exams, a new job or splitting up with a girlfriend likely won't have an effect on your hair unfortunately OP (otherwise every bugger in the world would be balding). It's more than likely male pattern baldness. Do your research about the big 3 and post some photos.

What you are referring to is stress induced telogen effluvium. I actually saw it all the time when I was working in the picu, like 3 year old girls would have pretty bad thinning... hair is freaking weird man.

I also see cancer survivors who had permanently thinned hair. It seems to be the ones who get radiation who it is worse on

Yeah, I work in healthcare and see acute Telogen Effluvium every so often. Depending on the cause it can recover. I think we've all diasgnosed ourselves as having Telogen Effluvium at some point.

No stress didn't cause your thinning poor nutrition bad sleep habits and genetics did.

I think it would be better if you can post photos

can you look at my thread and give your opinion

You want all of us to imagine your situation?? pictures please.

how long have you been taking the multivitamin? good on you for doing research and working on your diet. I wouldn't turn to rogaine yet - check out the threads on effects and know what you're getting into first. https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/forums/growth-stimulants-rogaine-minoxidil-tricomin.29/

give the natural path some time is my vote ...

What are you saying people? Doesn't stress causes telogen effluvium?

Looks like male pattern baldness unfortunately OP. Telogen effluvium is rare and often affects hair all over your body. Yours seems to be localised to the crown (check your temples as well) which is often male pattern baldness.
