Gyno or Whine-o?

Hey,

Only been on finasteride for 3 weeks, but my nipples have been pretty sore (intermittently), and they seem to get hard really frequently and are a bit swollen. Unfortunately I don't have before pics, but I'd like the groups thoughts. I don't claim to be a hyper-athlete, but I'm in decent enough shape.

http://imgur.com/a/jBgUg (please ignore how messy my room was when I took these :), please be aware that you are clicking on a picture of a naked male torso... I just see all these posts on Gyno but no pictures so I wanted to start a trend :) )

I am well aware this is not 'true' gyno but it may be pseudo and I want to catch it early. Anyone else have sore/sensitive nipples in the first month or so? I'm bringing it up with my derm but my appointment isn't until January.

Hey,
Yeah, I popped my dirst pill yesterday, and I kind of got sore nipples, I don't know, maybe it's just in my head. But nothing that I would feel if I didn't think about it all the time. Plus I only popped 0.3mg. But well, your breasts seems to be kind of large, I hope those are only your muscles. If they get swollen, that might not be a good sign, maybe you should take a break from finasteride and start after 2 weeks with smaller dosage.

Yeah that's fair. I'm planning on taking a month off, take some comparison pictures so I don't drive myself crazy, and then re-assess from there.

I'll post the pics in this thread, hopefully that will help someone struggling with the same issue.

It's tricky because I've always had a fairly 'broad' or large chest which can accumulate fat pretty easy, so maybe I'm just more at risk than the average bear. I'd rather be bald than have gyno, especially as I have workout goals that would be pretty pointless if I could never have a good body.

Cheers for the advice!

I think that could be the beginning of it especially considering you report tenderness in the breast area. It's difficult from the pictures but since you are having soreness in the breast area, that's a sign. It may go away though over time...but personally since you are in the 2% that gets sides I would stop. Others will say ride it out though.

Thanks man I think a break is a good idea. I have a hypothesis that my estrogen levels 'spiked' up due to the new drug + I was also eating like crap for a week or two = fat goes into breasts. I'm thinking I see what it looks like in a month w/no finasteride, go back on a low dose, and if it comes back again quit after a few months.

Also for anyone who thinks balding is worse than gyno... you're wrong :)

Thanks for the advice much appreciated!

After the break you might want to try one day only, and see how it looks, because I've read a case where a guy got a break, hoppen on finasteride for 2 weeks again, and got one hell of a gyno.
However, it is my opinion only, I am not that experienced.

Hmm interesting. I think I'll just consult with my doctor prior to re-starting finasteride. Thanks for the tip!

Riiight. I've seen some posts from you :); I think female athletes might disagree with that last point. Also the first sentence is pretty much the hypochondriac mantra.

I'll see what my doctor says.

In my experience (had gynecomastia from a drug and had to remove it through surgery), if you get to the point where you ask yourself if you have gyno, you have it.

And yes you do have gyno in my opinion. And gyno doesn't go away on its own, not matter what some doctors will tell you. The rest is rationalization.

And it's bad, because it will make you live in denial longer, possibly make it worse, making the surgery more complicated etc.

And there is no such thing as pseudo gynecomastia either. Either you have it, or you do not. Gynecomastia from fat only is true gynecomastia, mine was like 25% gland, 75% fat.

That fat will never go away on its own, it's like the fat in women's boobs.

So if I felt like my nipples are a little bit sensitive when taking finasteride - gyno? ??
Not even sure if it was my imagination, actually they kind of feel the same , and I only took 0.3mg 4 days ago, nothing since then, and that was my first pill

Placebo?

I second the post by Fred, I was on finasteride for 2 months and it gave me gyno which didn't go away. It's not that bad but it's there, and would probably have gotten a lot worse had I persisted with finasteride.

My symptoms included tender/sensitive nipples and pain around that area.

Was the pain dull/noticeabla/mild?

You can have gyno symptoms early on from finasteride due to the change in hormones. If you already have high estrogen it may cause actual gyno. though this is very rare.
The estrogen raise in the average male is only around 6-12%. Whilst Testosterone can raise 8-18%. Drugs such as nolvadex can greatly reduce gyno/symptoms.

Nolvadex has a side effect- hair thinning.

Is there any other way to decrease the amount of testosterone in body?
