Go to a doctor ASAP and tell him/her of your situation. If he says you're fine say you want to see a specialist.

Take a bloodtest and check the hormonelevels in your body. It's very cheap (cost me about $10), and within a week you'll know if you have some serious hormone problems. Now, either way, Finasterid will always have an impact on ones estrogen/testosteron levels, but shouldn't really be a problem for the great majority.
My doctor told me, that for a lot of people it may take some time for your body to adjust to the change in hormonelevels. But in most cases things should return to normal within a couple of months.

Now, I've been using finasterid for about 4 weeks now, and I also have a swollen stomach and enlarged breasts. It's no picknic, for sure! I know how you feel.
However, this is how the body reacts when the estrogen levels are heightened.
Most likely these sideaffects will abate, after being on the drug for about a couple of months. If not, you may want to accept your fate of "baldness". :)

At any rate, my doctor seems to think that finasterid is a relatively harmless drug. However (in my understanding), since DHT is connected to the male sexual drive, some minor change in libido may be unavoidable.
That's why I personally would NEVER touch dustasterid, which makes a much more powerful impact on the hormonelevels in your body. There are worse things in life than going bald...

Most definetly see a physician. 1 month is not enough to cause permanent damage, and if it is gyno, you want to know immediately.

Get an appointment within the next week. Hold off on Finasteride until then.

I whole heartedly agree with Axon. Go to a Dr. and get a professional opinion and maybe some blood work.

The enlargement can be from excess glandular tissue or fat or both

Gynecomastia can consist of:

gland alone
mixed (gland and fat)
fat alone
Mixed gynecomastia can have glandular components concentrated or diffusely spread through the male breast.

secondly, if its actually caused by finasteride, wud it go away if i keep using finasteride or shud i stop it?

Well the symtom that it's bigger may be a indication. Mild Gyno is usually not noticeable by anyone except you. sometimes it's accompanied by itchy or sore nipples but not always. The areola may start to take on a smooth cone shape as an early symptom.
Will it go away with continued use of finasteride? there's no way to know for sure and there's no way anyone can say otherwise. Simply put, It might or might not go away
This is why you need to go to a Dr.

BHD, what specific tests should I request from the Doctor? I've been really concerned about gyno as well. Is there a certain "level" of testosterone or estrogen that is too low or high?

BHD,
When I was on finasteride my nipples became very sore. One morning I got out of the shower and my nipple was actually bleeding. It was soon after that I got off the stuff. Not because of that, but for another reason. Do you think this could have been the start of gyno?? I was considering giving finasteride a go again to see if I could tolerate it, but not if that could have been the start of gyno.

Temples....not sure which tests need to be done but a Endocrineologist would know. That would be the Dr of choice for gyno.

VF,
I've never heard of any case of gyno resulting in a bleeding nipple. The pain is not a surface pain. It's deeper and under the nipple. If you hit it just right it feels like someone stuck a needle in your chest.

Unfortunately, I don't have health insurance so going to a specialist is probably out of the question. Should I just cut my finasteride dose to .5 mg per day and see if it goes away? Is finasteride still effective at this dose?

Studies seem to indicate that even doses as low as .2mg can be beneficial in some people and I think the difference between .5mg and 1mg was almost unnoticeable, IIRC.

Hmmm, what to do, what to do. I don't want to risk gyno, nor do I want to risk losing the progress I've gained so far. The "feminine tingle" comes and goes, but I am getting fatter.

f***!

I feel a little better now that I've read this on Dr. Lee's site:

At the same meeting, results from a dose-range-finding study were presented, evaluating finasteride at doses of 0.01, 0.05, 0.2, 1 and 5 mg/day. A six week trial measured concentrations of scalp skin and serum dihydrotestosterone. Surprisingly, other than the group taking 0.01 mg/day, no significant differences between the doses were seen. However, significant differences were documented between the groups that received finasteride (excluding those receiving 0.01 mg/day) and the group that received placebo. It was determined that a low dose of oral finasteride will be used for further studies in the treatment of male pattern baldness.

Now, if I could only get my fat lethargic *** onto the trampoline. I f*****g hate finasteride!

Oh, and what is the difference in measurement between 0.01, 0.05, 0.2? Does "0.2" mean 20% of 1 mg?

Yeah, pretty much.... .25mg would be 1/4 (or 25%) of your standard 1mg Propecia tablet, .5 would be 1/2, etc...

I see. I'm pretty retarded when it comes to mathematics.

Thanks for the heads up about that study too.

Just took my first dose of "0.5" finasteride. Hope these boobies go away. They're so realistic in feel that I get horny when I grab them.

Well, I really am concerned about this. I've been on finasteride for 4 months and just noticed breast tenderness or what I call the "feminine tingle" about a week ago. Watching a show on Discovery Health Channel called "Men With Breasts" didn't help either.

I've already dropped my finasteride dose down to .5 mg, but the "tingle" is still there. I would imaginine it would take awhile for it to go away.
