Take a bloodtest and check the hormonelevels in your body. It's very cheap (cost me about $10), and within a week you'll know if you have some serious hormone problems. Now, either way, Finasterid will always have an impact on ones estrogen/testosteron levels, but shouldn't really be a problem for the great majority.
My doctor told me, that for a lot of people it may take some time for your body to adjust to the change in hormonelevels. But in most cases things should return to normal within a couple of months.
Now, I've been using finasterid for about 4 weeks now, and I also have a swollen stomach and enlarged breasts. It's no picknic, for sure! I know how you feel.
However, this is how the body reacts when the estrogen levels are heightened.
Most likely these sideaffects will abate, after being on the drug for about a couple of months. If not, you may want to accept your fate of "baldness".
At any rate, my doctor seems to think that finasterid is a relatively harmless drug. However (in my understanding), since DHT is connected to the male sexual drive, some minor change in libido may be unavoidable.
That's why I personally would NEVER touch dustasterid, which makes a much more powerful impact on the hormonelevels in your body. There are worse things in life than going bald...
