Hi...I need your help guys.

I noticed within the past 6 months my 16 yr. old is showing signs of recession and slight thinning on top. Crown area completely full. Family history...both grandfathers lost hair early. One by senior year of high school and my dad was early 20's. My husband has a full head a straight hairline. Go figure!

He could care less at this stage. Sports and school rule his life...like it should. Hair loss specialist said showing early signs....does not necessarily mean he will bald....but recommended minoxidil 1 to 2x's a day and the I grow helmet as a preventative measure and then keep an eye on things. No way will I have him wear the helmet. He would HATE me, but he has no problem putting the foam in.

Guys-do wish you had started preventative measures earlier? I question if I'm doing the right thing, even though my gut is telling me as a mom better to treat then get worse.

Advice VERY much appreciated from any or all age groups. Thanks a million!

weird thing that you seem to be more concerned than he is (reference to the igrow-thing part).
minoxidil could buy him a few years like it did to me, but it will depend on how well he will respond to it.
then at 21 he could go to finasteride/dutasteride which are more efficient.
Putting minoxidil 2 times a day for years is a pain in the *** so be sure that he is ready to be dedicated to this routine and aware of possible side effects.

Hey guy!

please don't be rude to me. My own father struggled accepting his baldness much of his life. I could have cared less, but it hurts to see a guy struggle over their hair. My H's dad was even worse. Hairpieces and all. It's NOT about ME. This is about helping starve off the issue until HE can decide what's right for him. I simply explained his genetics and he was fine with starting minoxidil. I simply wanted to hear if you guys wish you treated sooner than later.

I am FAR from a B$$$$. I LOVE my sons.....plural I have 2. As a mom, we never want to see our boys struggle, and from what I've seen, hair loss in a young man causes a lot of heartache.

We women have our own struggles. Simply put, I had acne as a young girl and my parents could have cared less. I wish they took a more active role!

:))))

So why have him in the first place ?

My brother has a FULL head of hair at 40 and so does my husband. The gene can go any direction. And that is NOT a nice comment regarding me having sons.

Im im here asking empathetically for advice or opinions, that's all. Please respect that.

Thank you! I would never make the decision to put him on propecia. That is his and only his decision and I will do whatever I can to support him in making it. I think, and may get criticized, 18 is still too young for propecia. My son is a rower, height and build rule his sport, I would like him to be fully developed before that decision is made.

Would you do what I'm doing? Minoxidil 1x per day foam. I've discussed the side effects you quoted with the specialist. Not surpringly, he thought they were unfounded.

LOL @ guys saying to not having kids if your family genetics for hair suck hard, if the main reason for having a kid is thinking about his future hair, i really don't have faith in humanity anymore, high level of moronic comment right there, well played ;)

And don't worry about minoxidil foam side effects, only the unluckiest guy on hearth ( or with a very weak body ) should have sides on minoxidil foam x)

Hey guy!

please don't be rude to me.

I apologize for the cretins you're dealing with in this thread. Unfortunately you 've come to the wrong place if you're looking for solid advice. This forum ceased being useful quite some time ago and is mainly filled with the type of scumbags you see here that are an embarassment even to bald men. If you really want any useful information, feel free to send me a private message and I'll be glad to help if I can.

He should start finasteride when he can, this is a long term solution and should stop any loss. Continue with the minoxidil. He will certainly go completely bald in 5-10 years if he has diffuse thinning all over the top of his head

Problem with finasteride is you should be done with puberty before starting it. I would have no problem recommending it to an 18 year old, 17 is pushing it. 16, not so sure. You should talk to a dermatologist or hair transplant doctor about getting him on finasteride whenever possible

sides are rare (under 5%) and there is no permanent sides, despite what hairislife tells you. He is incredibly delusional

that "hairislife" guy is just one of the many self-hating bald guys on the forum who likes to remind everyone that "being bald destroys your life". He is an idiot

Does he care? If not ****ing move on. Nothing is worse than a mom that doesn't want her son to go bald and then not love him because of it you ****ing b**ch.

Damn dude!?

I would say ask your son how he feels about it first. I know it may sound ridiculous, but some young guys can actually deal with going bald at a young age. If he does want to do something about it then take Frenchy's advice. Hopefully minoxidil can help him halt his hair loss until he get into his 20's. At that point then he can decide if he wants to give finasteride a try. Maybe we will have other options in a few years???

You are doing the right thing by trying to do something about this early, which is the best time to fight hair loss.

What helpful advice do you have to offer besides spewing out the same old garbage ? Use Rogaine and dick poison, the end.

There's a reason no one gives a fvck about their reputation anymore, we're all fvcked anyway.

I barely even post here any more because of retards like you but always give solid advice about hair loss and various treatments. This forum has become nothing but a loser convention and I pity all of you. You're an embarassment to the human race.

Thank you! I absolutely discussed it with him and made it VERY clear that many guys don't care and if he's one of them when he matures....GOD BLESS HIM! Confidence is WAY more attractive than a full head of hair!

Thank you for your kindness. I agree, it's kind of sad to see such negativity. Maybe I asked for this posting on a "guys" hair loss board. I really expecting more heartfelt responses. Must be the girl in me! :)

Well, all moderation on this board has pretty much disappeared. A few years ago this crap would have been stopped quickly and offenders warned or banned if necessary but no one really cares any more. Try posting on hairlosshelp.com. They're not as crazy over there yet and you might not get insulted. :)

The admin on this site is quick to remove links to other websites (lest his income / popularity fall) but does swfa otherwise.

A lot of posters on here seem to have had a genuine mental breakdown. I'd laugh if it wasn't sad.

Now they simply post on here saying 'I'm fcuked and so will you be' kind of attitude.

It's weird how different this board is compared to 8 years ago. None of this "if you go bald you should commit suicide" crap back then. Just people sharing information. It seems like the entire internet has changed though.
the thing is there is nothing new in hairloss treatment sine a long time, so not much things to share anymore, like everything has already been discust, just have to wait... its a bit depressing

So many guys on here act like it's the end of the world to go bald. Don't get me wrong, I hate seeing my hairline thin. I'd really like to not end up a high Norwood. But to commit suicide over it like some are suggesting? No thanks. Most of the men on here, who are balding, act like bald men are ugly, disgusting, weak human beings, when that's really not the case. The fact is, if your on here then you're probably going to end up a bald man in the future. So why all the hate? And anyone acting like you'll die alone if you go bald is full of bs. Sure some people may have a problem with it, we all have are preferences. But if most of the posters on here act how I've seen them behave online in real life, then I don't think its your shiny dome perventing you from finding love.
