Guess minoxidil doesn't work for me :(

Ok I've been using it for just over 6 months and the results are horrifying to say the least. Hair loss is 50x worse than it was when I started back in April. Not sure what to do at this point, there is so much misinformation out there hard to tell what is real and what is just more bull sh!t advertising. Think I'm just gonna quit cold turkey, I haven't gained any hair in 6 months but have lost a ton. Guess I'm part of that small percent that it doesn't help IDK :(

This is a sign of treatment working. Don't drop it under any circumstances.

The minoxidil has synchronized your hair cycling. The loss of huge amounts of hair, the typical minoxidil shed, means that all your balding/dieing hairs have entered and completed telogen phase together. If you have consistently applied minoxidil for 6 months, they will enter anagen in about 3 months usually, at the very latest in 6 months, and from then on they will be supported by minoxidil.

Don't drop it. If they synchronize their hair cycle stage due to minoxidil it means that minoxidil is working.

No. If it doesn't work in the first 4 months rogaine recommends you quit using it.

So who is right? How Am I supposed to know what to do? Guess I have nothing to lose by continuing it

Stick to it for about 1 year but I have to say the benefit of using Minoxidil alone is not really great. You have to start on Finasteride 1.25 mg at least along with Minoxidil to have any substantial results.

DENI3D, you could at least do your own research into hair cycling. Then you will see how long a hair cycle takes. Use my info on how minoxidil synchronizes cycling with the info you find on the length of the cycle stages. Then you will see that waiting for 4 months is not enough.

In short:
minoxidil pushes hairs into catagen, which lasts for 2 to 3 weeks. Catagen inducing will take a few days to weeks on minoxidil, so add some. Then it enters telogen, which takes up to 4 months. Add all that up. Quite a few doctors recommend waiting for 9 months while on minoxidil due to individual cycles. Only after 9 months you can be completely certain that it doesn't work for you.

Do what you want. Noboy can force you to do something, you have all the info you need so make your own decision.

If in 4 months it doesn't work then there's no point in using, only finasteride needs more time for it to work.

vellus hairs all over the temples and hairline with some turning black after a period of 4 months is a good reason to keep using minoxidil?

To whoever neg repped me for my 4 month comment above. This was straight out of the rogaine app on my phone after i used the stuff for 4 months. It said by now you should see results. You should assess whether you continue taking it... To me if you don't see results after 4 months you either did it wrong or it doesn't work for you.
You do realize that the people who get a shed from minoxidil are the ones whom it works for, because of the aforementioned reasons? The same mechanism that makes you shed (synchronizing hair cycles) first pushes hairs into telogen and then after that into anagen. Shed precedes growth.
What the minoxidil app means by "no effect after 4 months" is that actually nothing happens. Nothing at all.

omg a dermaroller guy neg repped me. Lol. Don't listen to benjt. He doesn't know what he is talking about. Rogaine works for like 40 percent of people on its own. It will slow down hair loss for another 40 percent and do nothing for the other 20. Waste of money.
a) I didn't update my regimen. I tried dermarolling and it didnt work.
b) "Dont listen to him, he doesnt know what hes talking about". Is that the most substantial argument you have? Quite ridiculous. You could instead argue why minoxidil's mode of action, which I just explained, is - in your opinion - wrong information. But because you can't do that, you just say "ah, he doesnt know what hes talking about" without giving reasons. Way to go!

Yes. Maximum effect is usually seen at some point between 9 and 12 months, but closer to 12. Once you've seen your results at 12 months, you know basically the maximum you can achieve with minoxidil.

Yes, s. here, here and here.

Thick hairs have been seen as early as 4 months into treatment, but usually the full benefit from Minoxidil is not see for 12 - 14 months.
the full effect of Rogaine is usually achieved between 12 and 14 months
Between ten and fourteen months to get maximum results Minoxidil can be give in terms of hair growth.

No one understands how it works. I personally thought it was poison. Gave me confusion, couldn't exercises without a throbbing pain in my chest, dare I say it impaired my memory. I figure the only meds you are going to get to save hair are anti man. I'm just going to go bald and be a man. Save my money. I don't care of some 16 year old girl doesn't like it, or if some prissy insecure fat 33 year old woman doesn't like it. I am who I am and I am going to own it. So you guys can try every lame *** theory out there throwing cash happily to the shills pissing away your earnings. I will save my money and go on trips and live my life. Nothing can bring me down. If I'm ugly so be it. The world needs ugly people. I buzzed my head to a number 2. No one acted any different around me or said anything. Everyone at work was just as friendly as ever and my gf said I have a nice shaped head. Guess I will continue to work on other things in life I actually have control over then this thing called hair. A dead piece of matter that grows out of your head. And once it is off your head like in your food or on the floor it is gross. Life would be a lot easier simply buzzing it to a number 2
The rest of my life. I might just have to do that. But I digress. The point is minoxidil doesn't work for many men. If it does work it will peak like you say it does. But if you see nothing in the first 4 months I'm afraid it ain't going
to work in the next 4 months either. End of story.

Oh and just cause your hair sheds while on minoxidil doesn't mean it is working. There is no guarantee that hair will grow back healthier. I did minoxidil for 6 months. All it did was thin out the temples where I applied it to and thickened up the crown. I decided it wasn't worth it. But to be fair I did apply to a wet scalp most of the time which might have caused over absorption causing my side effects.

Woah! nice outburst.

In reality, the proven and cost effective regime is less than $16 a month, so that's barely noticeable for most peoples finances.

I'm pretty sure you can look after your hair, travel and live your life. Unless one has the inability to focus on more than one thing.

Its an inconvenience to go bald, that is all.

minoxidil gives you at least 2 solid years, then you start to lose ground again. I mean you're always losing ground even with finasteride, it's just that minoxidil "hides" the damage.

Gives you more unless you are a 17 year old aggressive baldy. A 5 year trial showed that after 12-16 years you returned to baseline. Some people were still growing after 5 years. I am currently trialling Minoxidil and seeing how it goes - definitely I agree with the 4 month result thing. About 15% of users minoxidil does nothing for. The other 85% - half get maintenance or regrowth.

The 10 year trial with finasteride showed 90% maintained or regrew - but I am not sure if hair counts were decreasing. They may well have been but not cosmetically noticeable. Either way it's a great drug for hair loss.

First you were ripping into finasteride and now Minoxidil.

Fact is finasteride stops DHT to below the level needed for miniaturisation in 90% of people - so how can u go bald without DHT?

Secondly minoxidil is 85% effective at maintenance or regrowth. It doesn't accelerate hair loss :freaked2:

The other stuff you mentioned, most is psychological sorry to say. If you are really at peace with hair loss that's fine too.

Mean while over the next 5 years you will still go bald needing to apply more and more of the bottle across your scalp. It will cost you more than 1,000 dollars at least which could have been invested. Might as well invest in hair loss company's since that's where men want to waste their money.

With a proper regime that would hopefully not be the case. Even so, the majority of chaps on this site would be realistic and call it quits way before 5 years of no results mark.

I would only use minoxidil if you are also on finasteride or if your hair loss is severe.
