Whats up my fellow male pattern baldness brothers,

I am 6' and around 165 pounds, I want to gain around 5-10 pounds more of lean mass and keep it. I'm sort of on and off when it comes to working out hardcore, but I do get results when I do work out and eat a crapload of food. What are some ways you guys bulk up?

Im in the same boat as you. 5'10, 125 pounds and understandably trying to put on weight. I'm hitting up the shakes and weights at the moment, but I'm definately a "hard gainer."

i would suggest using a weight gaining protein powder. It is full of protein (to help build muscle) and is also packed with the carbs to help you put on some extra weight. Carbs are crucial to put on weight AND muscle

Whey protein lots of it. And heavy multi-jointed compound exercises such as barbell rows, deadlifts, bench presses, and squats. Lots of them. And then get ready to have all of your clothing refitted. Cause you're going to get big. :)

Also make sure you consuming MORE calories than what you are burning. If you can make sure of that you will definatly gain weight

Yeah i heard carbs being good for gaining muscle too.

Annoying thing is I recently found a medical study on a low GI diet having a beneficial effect on the hormones involved in acne, due to a low GI diet being beneficial for combating insulin resistance. Now these hormonal factors are similar to those involved in hair loss, so avoiding high GI carbohydrates would certainly seem like a good idea for male pattern baldness sufferers.

Lol, was that directed at me? I didn't think the study was that dissapointing...? :p

Or was it to do with we skinny people having to fight to gain weight? :) It's not really all that fun, putting on muscle for me is just as hard as putting on fat. Well not really, as the latter is impossible for me at the moment, but it's still hard as hell for me to buff up.

Yeah I need to gain about 5KG lol.

I'm 5'9 and I weigh 58kg, I think last time I checked. My bloody stupid metabolism allows me to eat anything and never put on weight.

Great post :)

Skinny guys usually arent eating enough of the right foods. Most claim they can eat anything and never gain weight. While in some cases this may be true- combined with a good work-out routine, I serisouly doubt you'd maintain weight.

Eat more
Core Training (bench, deads, squats, chins)
Whey Protein (1-1.5grams per lb of body weight)
Casein protein at night (digests slower- protein is essential for growth)
Do not overlook REST.. (you break down tissue while exercising and grow while resting)
Low reps, heavy weight, good form.. (alot of guys recommend sticking in the 4-8 rep range during bulk cycles)
**Creatine is always an option

How many sets is ideal? I do 3 sets on my heavy days and 5 sets on the slow twitch days. Someone told me I should do 12 sets of every muscle group. I read in Irom Man magazine that most people can't recover from that many sets to failure.

You cant put on muscle without training. If you are not 100% pumped to go train 5 days a week dont even bother with the whey.

Serisouly consider a 5x5 routine.

You can read all about it on the BB.com forums or skip the hoopla and go right to Madcows site. This guy is one of the supposed god-fathers of this type of training and highly respected on those boards.

Now for a quick idea of what this type of regimine consists of, use this link and scroll down to the 5x5 sample.

Don't be shocked if you're buying new shirts and suits, 2 months from now.
