Dutasteride: supposed to give you a great head of hair, but totally f*ck you up hormonally and give you terrible side effects.

What it's done for me... Made me feel better in every way, but made my hair look like total sh!t.

LOL.

It would be helpful if you could elaborate.
Which brand are you using ?
Did you make a switch from finasteride to dutasteride and if so how did you make the switch ?
Thanks.

You get a free testosterone boost with this stuff, so that is probably what you are feeling. I felt the same with finasteride.

Using avodart 0.5mg a day.

I just popped my last finasteride and switched directly. No longer take finasteride at all

That's not true. These drugs decrease free testosterone. They increase fotal testosterone and estrogen but the usable (free) testosterone is less. They are, like it or not, feminising drugs.

Not readable without a login?

"A recent study has shown that in patients receiving testosterone, dutasteride (Avodart, GlaxoSmithKline) did not blunt the hormone's effects on muscle mass."

Pretty much the only part that matters.

All I can say is that I feel like my testosterone has increased, but my hair looks worse than ever. I went from having a thin spot on my left temple that could be covered up, to have a so-thin-it's-a-bald-spot on my left temple that CANNOT be covered up.

I've read that before.. But remember that there are other aspects to physical performance than muscle mass... Like DHT is said to be performance enhancing and a contributor to aggression...and just because a muscle is bulky, doesn't mean it is as strong as another persons whose muscles are of equal size.

I've read that finasteride does lower free testosterone as well as increase estrogen. So the much talked about increase in testosterone on here is a bit misleading really. It's another reason why I wish we had less invasive treatments for hair loss.

You better check you facts, it increases it.-

"Earlier studies did examine dutasteride use in young men. The drug reduced DHT by 80 percent, and increased both free and total testosterone."

Even though dutasteride is stronger, finasteride will also increase it.

It's funny in a "this is so depressing and ridiculous that I can't do anything but laugh" way.

I'm hoping it's a telogen effluvium (shed) that dutasteride started.

it's very likely that dutasteride can induce Telogen Effluvium. this is my opinion. no I don't have any friggin evidence, because there obviously is none. dutasteride is some hardcore sh*t. Altering your hormones that much can definitely lead to Telogen Effluvium. It happens all the time in people receiving other therapies, or women giving childbirth, or going through menopausal changes. Why wouldn't it happen for men? well, it does. You will see that it's happened to many, many people when searching this on the internet.

I wouldn't "hope" that this is the case, however. If it is causing Telogen Effluvium, how do you know that continued use won't keep resulting in Telogen Effluvium, making it chronic? This is my biggest fear with dutasteride. This is actually why I will never touch it again. All those crawling, itching, tingling feelings may NOT even be "ar upregulation" or "sensitvity to increase in T" They could just be a result of Telogen Effluvium. I have gotten them every time I've had Telogen Effluvium.
