FUE Hair Transplant - What are the REAL risks that people don't talk about?

Hello,

I'm 23 year old male, who started having a receding hairline. Until now, I've avoided this matter, kinda like when alcoholics don't admit that they're alcoholics, I've kept my eyes shut on this matter, but I can't ignore it anymore when I have to spend 30 min in the morning on getting my hair right in the hairline, so it doesn't look bad. I realize Propecia could definitely help me, because people can't tell my hair are thinning unless I let them grow longer, but I won't be taking that because I read about some real side effects that ruin people's lives, and I've done a surgery in the past where doctors didn't tell me real, and all side effects, and it almost ruined my life, so now I never do anything to modify my body, but male pattern baldness is a real problem, I have a very youthful look, but my hair make me look very older, and I don't even feel young anymore because of it. I don't wanna live my life like this.

With that being said, I also want to apologize if a similar thread has been opened.

So, my question is, what are some REAL risks and side effects of a FUE surgery that people don't talk about, the risks that affect only small % of patients, but indeed can happen?

Also, what can my expectations be? I want my hairline to be just like it was 2 years ago (it was completely straight) and I noticed people say that it doesn't look natural, but all my family in their 30s and 40s have that kind of hairline, so my question is, do people say it doesn't look natural because it doesn't happen often, or because doctors CAN'T MAKE IT LOOK natural?

I saw a lot of celebrities have done hair transplant, Matthew McGohonughey (I know I misspelled that), but until I saw his pics from 1999 online, I could never tell he had them done, and I was always envy of his hair. Can my expectations be that?

Finally, what are the most reputable surgeons in US? I live in LA, but I can easily fly to Miami, or anywhere else in the US for this (I will save every penny for this).

I only now came across this forum, and I wanna thank all of you in advance for replying to my questions.

Hi Bill

Sorry to read male pattern baldness is giving you trouble . Some FUE risks include being thousands out of pocket with the possibility the implants die. A big consideration will be your age as it would seem likely you would need more down the line. This aside I haven't seen any FUE results in the flesh and nor likely would the people who said they don't look natural but pics I've seen of some people who've had them look effective to me but it does seem to need careful consideration as I don't think they're reversible if you don't like them but I could be wrong on that.

With FUE being permanent you may want to consider trying a piece if you can live with some of the negatives because if you don't like them at least it's easily reversible and from what I've seen some of them look great. Cue company plug...no I'm not a schill he he.

Hope that's some help.

I think their is a very small chance of necrosis.

The main risks are that you will carry on balding, having to get other hair transplants down the line. Eventually running out of hair to transplant, This is almost certain without propecia/finasteride. I don't think FUE hair transplants look great, they always seem to be low density, I think the good FUE results seen on doctors websites are the few good ones from many mediocre results. And even then they have concealer and taken in forgiving lighting conditions.

I'm pretty sure Matthew Mcconaughey did not have a hair transplant, it just looks way too good. I think he just was a great responder to minoxidil and propecia. Either than or he wears a hair system.

Hmm, never thought about that, that doctors will put their best patients' results on their websites, that's a very good point and something to think about, I can't believe I never thought of that. Do you know where I can see what's the average, most common look that people get?

You don't think that's surgery? If this is from Propecia... then I guess I'm outta luck, after reading stories of permanent side effects for quite few people, I don't think anything is worth that. I must note though, that baldness does not run in my family, I have what you might call a 'mature hairline', which bothers me, but I don't think I'll go completely bald, if yes, then I'll just shave it off.

May likely be true but a number of celebrity's have had it done which look effective from what I've seen.

Mcconaughey is an enigma of its own. I'm inclined to believe that he had a front transplant and is now wearing a piece behind his transplanted hairline.

Sorry, I have no idea what the average fue result looks like. When I have considered it I have looked at hundreds, always put off at the end. Maybe I have an unrealistic expectation. you might be better looking at what people post of their own results on forums like this one.

As for Matthew Mcconaughey, I really don't know what he did. It used to give me such hope looking at his photo lol. But because it looks so good, and that he had it shaved down for a film with stubble in a NW1 pattern I'm inclined to think it's his real hair. Allthough that mugshot looks like a serious NW3-4 going on, I think the hairs were still there just very thin.
