Hello,

Firstly about myself. I'm 22 and I've always had a high hairline from since I can remember. However in the last year or so I've noticed that it seems to be getting a little higher and seems harder to style my hair as I normally do. I do not know whether I'm being paranoid or not.

I've looked at pictures from 5 years ago and it seems to be no different from then! And I was 17! I've attached pictures to show what it was like then (apologies for size but it's the best one I could find that shows the high hairline) and also now with my hair held back and how it is normally styled.

I am posting this to possible get some advice from anyone who is willing to give it. Is all this just in my head or am I just losing my hair slowly? I don't seem to have any problem with the crown area and when I wash and dry my hair it's quite thick. It's just the hairline that I'm worried about.

I've done quite a bit of research into treatments and at the moment I really don't want to go down the finasteride route as I really couldn't do to have any sexual sides at this stage of my life. I don't have any trouble attracting girls and no-one has noticed that i'm receding, I often get alot of comments on how nice my hair looks. At the moment I'm fine with my hair as it is.. I'm just worried that it will get worse in the near future and become unbearably more noticeable... that's the thing that gets me down the most as I'm sure many of you will agree. My hair has always been an important factor of my image and I find myself getting very jealous when I see people with perfect hair or even worse when people have shaved heads but obviously have very nice hairlines and i think what a waste it is that they have that hair and not using it to its potential.

I've been considering whether it would be worthwhile to try minoxidil to see if there's any improvement? Or is using it on its own a waste of time? I'm aware that there's only a small percentage of people who really really suffer from finasteride but does anyone actually know what the percentage is of people who suffer permanent sides? And also, I've heard one of the sides is watery semen... could anyone shed a bit more light on this and what it's like? Sounds like it could be embarassing when being intimate with a girl.

Thankyou for reading this and any advice is welcomed.

Jump on the big 3 bro, you will never know about the risk involved unless u try chances are you wont have sides, its a small possibility looks like you progressed to a Norwood 2 - 3 Range based on the temple shot, lighting abit hard to tell for sure, you can still style long hair which is good

Nearly everyone here will tell you

finasteride, MIN, nizoral is your best shot.

I think there might be a little thinning on the crown but I'm not sure whether it appears so because of my longish hair. I haven't noticed a difference from before I was a teenager though.

I will try to get some pics up.

Joe-91 I saw on your profile you got sexual sides from finasteride.. If you don't mind me asking.. what did they include, have they cleared up since quitting and if so how long did it take. Are you back to normal now?

I think I will jump on the big 3 in a month's time when I've got this uni year over with and I can think straight.

Can someone give me some solid advice about what I should do before hand.. I'm planning on visiting a GP and I'm guessing I'll be referred to a dermatologist or something? Do I get blood tests before jumping on a regime?

And next.. about suppliers...

I'm not sure where I should get the products from but I've read on this site that boots do a good program but it works out alot cheaper if you buy from the internet or something?

If anyone could lay out a bit of a guide for me telling of their experience then I think I'll be a lot more confident about signing up.

cheers.

No offence mate but looking at your hair it seems that its pretty much the same as mine at your age, I am thinking that like me geneticly you have been dealt a sh*t hand in the hair dept.
What is the men in your families hair like, do you have a bald father, grandfather, uncles ect? Because they're the best indication of what lies ahead for you.

Your hair looks very thin/fine in texture and I'm sure it probably is worse than when you were 17. What I am saying is that hairloss can happen to some degree without being too obvious. although you seem ok with it now it looks to me like just losing another 10% could drasticly alter your appearance.

Yeah you need to get on treatments and Finasteride is the most important by far. Buy it generic from the internet to save money.

The third photo shows recession....you do have a high hairline, but, from the photos, it probably is worse than when you were 17. Look at the temple in photo 1, and compare to photo 3...looks like you're receeding to NW3, but your hairstyle acts as a great cover up.

Hmm. As you can see from my regimen I have a rather unusual (and multi-layered! hehe :) ) approach to hair loss, I won't bore everyone by narrating the same things again lol

I will advise though that you're careful with finasteride, I've had some light sides and just feel uncomfortable on anything more than a mild dose. It's up to you though and many people have a lot of success, but I would start lower rather than higher, perhaps 0.25mg a day :). Instead of straight minoxidil I quite like the look of Spectral DNC followed by Dr Lee's range (as a second choice), and in place of Nizoral either Regenepure or Dr Lee's... Regrowth Treatment Shampoo? Something along those lines. It contains SLS though which is why I've gone for Regenepure, but I very much doubt your hair loss has much to do with SLS anyway. Nizoral is fairly harsh though I found, it left my scalp quite dry and a little red ._.

If you want you could take the time to look into underlying health stuff that might be chucking your body off-balance, I am in the relatively small camp that believes there is often more to this problem than just a simple genetic sensitivity to DHT! But if not then yeah, a combination of some of the products mentioned should make a considerable difference :)
