Finasteride not working anymore after 3 years?

Good morning guys,

I have been taking finasteride for 3 years, it stopped the hair loss on my temples but last 2 months, I have been losing a lot of hair there.

I sometimes miss my minoxidil application on the temples but I have never stopped in the last 3 years. I don't know if I skip 1 or 2 nights, it can drastically recede my hairline and temples. (I only apply Minoxidil where I want my hair to grow which is the temples but not in my entire hair, it looks fine in general... I don't know if that's bad, I have been doing it like that for 3 years)

Also, I was using Regenepure Shampoo but I wanted to try Pura D Or Gold Label, and I think it is also causing the loss too... Should I go back to regenepure? What about adding Nizoral to my shampoos? 2 times a week?

Also, I was taking this DHT blocker product from Amazon for about a year... Propidren https://www.amazon.com/Propidren-Ha...=1&keywords=hair+growth&qid=1608888676&sr=8-8

It has good reviews and it looks like it was working but I stopped taking it last month, maybe it has something to do with the loss?

I am really confused about all of this and I am considering a hair transplant but first I want to know what I can add to fix my recent hair loss.

Finasteride + Minoxidil + Regenepure + Nizoral? Is that a good combination? What else can I try? Hair growth multivitamin?

I read something about RU giving great results, should I try it?

The thing is I see the hair follicles on my temples, dark and with "volume" but they don't grow up... just tiny dark hair dots... 3 years watching them and no growth on those follicles, and my temples are receding a bit more lately from 2 months ago...

My brother has no hair loss and he doesn't take anything... my dad too... There must be something weird happening. I got a bad gene? Lol

I will upload pictures today so you can see hair and temples.

Thank you guys and I hope you can help me a little here.

Good evening guys,

I attached some pictures. I would like to know what else can I add to my regime to fix my temples.

Thanks!

try dutasteride/avodart if you have had no sides from finasteride. Its so hard to get regrowth on temples. Only thing is to stabilize then get a hair transplant

Dang first time I’ve seen small hairs like that on the temples. And according to you they’ve been persistently like that. Dht is being blocked and minoxidil doesn’t seem to trigger them to become terminal. You may need more growth factors and a stronger dht blocker.

I would start microneedling your temples, use minoxidil more consistently, and maybe introduce topical dutasteride (.5%) once a week.

I’m not sure who’s the resident expert in turning hairs like that terminal, maybe @pegasus2 @el_duterino

Btw picture 4098, you have a patch without any hair. It looks suspiciously like alopecia areata.

Those hairs are crazy, they go onto your forehead lol. Are you getting minoxidil all the way down your forehead every application? I would add rolling ps. 1.5mm 1x weekly in those spots.

Those hairs are weird, they look terminal. Your hair is so thick on top I would say to just take dutasteride and get a transplant, but I think you can save those hairs in the meantime and reduce the number of grafts you need. Add some estriol and PGE2 with microneedling, and those hairs should come to life. It's so weird, I've never seen anything like it.

Should everyone be adding estriol and PGE2? I just got on dutasteride 2x weekly + finasteride to try and recoup some ground for a forced finasteride break earlier this year but I've lost a lot in the last 3-4 months.

Yes, everyone is recommending me that, can be topical 0.5%? Thanks a lot!

Yes, they have been persistent like that for years but no growth. I think they can grow back but idk how... My regimen is Finasteride 1mg, Pura D Or or Regenepure shampoos, Rogaine 5% Foam and multivitamins. Nothing else. I think I have to add more things to boost the growth. I tried dermarolling but I feel like it takes time and I don't know how many times a week I have to do it and which mm to use.

And the patch, I went to the doctor and they took a sample and it was diagnosed as Lichen Planopilaris.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I use Rogaine 5% Foam and it might drip a little, do you think I can grow those hairs? They are still alive lol... 1.5mm is not too harsh?

Thank you!

Yes, I think I can grow them back but honestly, I don't know how...

Dutasteride topical or oral? Dose? If it is topical, do I apply it only on the temples like I am doing with Minoxidil?

Sorry for my ignorance but the same question with estriol and PGE2. Are they prescribed?

Microneedling, which size, all days, 1 day on 1 day off?

Which shampoos do you recommend and which vitamins should I take? Biotin? Vitamin D?

I think I can try all of that but I need someone to guide me a little bit if possible.

Thanks a lot for the help!

BTW, I'm 30 years old and my dad and brother no hair loss, maybe I got AA from my mom's dad.

It depends on your situation and what you and your doctor are comfortable with. Estriol is pretty well tested and shows a good safety profile, PGE2 has little long term safety data.

Topical or oral. .5mg/day. Apply it in the entire norwood 7 area so you don't thin out anywhere else.

Estriol is sold otc. You can buy it in bottles where 1 pump = 1mg. It's more effective if you get raw powder and use 10mg+. PGE2 is prescribed for other purposes, you won't get a prescription for it for hair loss. I buy bulk powder and mix it up myself for topical application.

Microneedling should be done every 2 weeks. I suggest you take a look at the Follica patent thread. The official protocol is .8mm, but most do 1mm I think and some people do 1.5mm.

Any shampoo that has ketoconazole is good. Use it 2-3x/week.

When you say vitamins you're opening up a can of worms. Most of the experienced people here will tell you that vitamins will do nothing. I agree with that for the most part, however the more knowledgeable people will tell you that some supplements might help drugs work better. If you have the money and stomach for it they are worth taking. Biotin, folic acid, vitamin d and e, zinc, msm, collagen and taurine will mostly help your hair to grow faster but do little for reversing Androgenetic Alopecia. Some supplements that might actually make a serious difference with Androgenetic Alopecia are nicotinamide riboside, Mitoq, and SOD. These are things that can limit or reverse damage from oxidative stress and improve cellular metabolism.

Hair loss is polygenic, it can come from anywhere, but it's normally inherited from your mother.

What have you done different recently? you switch Finasteride brands? Other than this it could be stopping the DHT blocker you bought, maybe trying adding that back into the regime?

Thanks a lot pegasus!

I think I will go for oral .5mg dutasteride. Should I apply Minodixil in the entire Norwood 7? I am afraid I could shed everywhere.

Estriol and PGE2, it looks like a lot of work. Is there any "cocktail" with both and recommended dosage? I think I saw a post of someone selling them.

Is it ok if I start by only adding .5mg dutasteride and microneedling for now? Try 6 months to see if I have good results?

About microneedling, I read .8 and 1mm is for dermapen and 1.5mm for dermaroller, is it true? Which size do you consider I should try? Once every 2 week? Do I apply minoxidil on rolling day?

I use Pura de Or and it has ketoconazole but I use it every day, which ones do you use?

Vitamins, I see a lot of multivitamins on Amazon for hair growth that includes all those ingredients, do you have any recommendation?

About nicotinamide riboside, Mitoq, and SOD. Are they vitamins? Safe? Any recommendation, brand?

Thanks a lot again for the help and happy new year to everyone!

Sometimes I think about this... I take Generic Finasteride 1mg from Wallgreens or CVS, sometimes the pills are white, other refills are brown. I think the number on the tablet changes too.

Is it possible it is causing some of the problems?

I mean could be a possibility, why not try legit Merck brand for a while and then check? That way you will have peace of mind you tried.

Hello guys, little update here.

I went to a dermatologist and he did not want to prescribe me dutasteride... He wants to send me to a hair specialist in the University of Miami... I don't know how to get a prescription or where I can buy it without it. I really want to give it a try.

BTW dutasteride increases your male breast? It can increase your estrogen levels?

I stopped using Pura D Or shampoo, it was not working for my hair and I saw a lot of shedding, I went back to Regenepure and the hair loss stopped a lot.

Also, I tried dermarolling but I think it causes more hair loss on my temples... I was too scared to continue so I dropped it.

I am on that point that I don't want to lose more ground and I am scared of trying more things. I am considering hair transplant FUE but I have terminal hairs on my temples that do not grow... I want to give dutasteride a try to see it boost the growth of those tiny hairs.

So right now I am on Finasteride 1mg, Rogaine minoxidil on my temples only, and Centrum Gummy Multivitamin for men.

Thank you and I appreciate any comments and tips.
