My dick turned into wet spaghetti, could not formulate my thoughts anymore, short term memory loss etc
Wow that sucks for sure man. This is day 9 for me. We will see how it goes. I have access to pharmaceuticals as I have discovered marijuana can be magic for libido. But if you were having all those other issues. Being bald is nothing compared to that.

Had increased sexual performance for first 4-5 weeks. Then it went significantly below baseline after that.

I actually asked someone who specializes in hormones etc. He said if you get any increase at all it’s not going to hurt your sex drive. It likely will go back to where it was before. But we are not in the 2% that it “effects negatively”
lol you go ahead and keep taking it buddy, hope it works for you honestly, but when down the road you feel different, lets see what that expert has to say.

Normal but not worse then before you started correct?

It did drop below baseline, but after some weeks went back to normal and stayed that way.. At least for the rest of the 10 months i was on it..

for those who experienced an increased libido. did you experience increased shedding and oily skin (acne) as well ?
I have been on 1mg finastride (then switched to 0.5) for about three months.
I lost about 70% of my hair.
My libido is in the roof and have some acne.
I might have a reflex hyperandrogenicity

You lost 70% of your hair in 3 months since you started finasteride? Jesus you must shed like a thousand hairs a day
around 500.
I actually had a head full of hair and I took finasteride just to prevent any future balding. I am only 18 years old.
today, I couldn't style my hair the way I used to style it and I started to see some bald spots in my crown area after the shower.
I searched all over the internet and couldn't find any similar situation and don't know what to do.
I am afraid of cutting off the finasetride and don't recover all my lost hair.

I started finasteride at 17 and somewhat maintained on it. If its completely not working for you try dutasteride, do you use minoxidil?
I tried to use minoxidil for about 4 months and experienced intensive shedding (around 300 hairs every day).
by a coincident, I dropped it for two days and the shedding completely stopped. so I stopped taking it. and the hair that I lost started to recover.
However, around 2 months later, I started shedding around 200 hairs a day. three days later, I started finasteride and the shedding started.
now I believe that the I don't have male pattern baldness, or at least it wasn't active when I first started minoxidil. Because when I started mino I was shedding around 25 hairs every day (2 or 3 hairs in the shower, no hairs in the pillow, and roughly 5 hairs when I penetrate my hand in my hair). in somehow, I though that wasn't normal and started the meds journey

i know what thats like bro.... i cant style the hair the way i used to without showing scalp... at least for you is just the crown ... i have parts all over my top that are thinner.. Its weird as hell... I think the minoxidil did it .. but i have no proof..

As for fina, i shed 10 months straight on it so I can't say anything positive about it... After 10 months I quit that sh*t but i should've quit it a lot sooner ...

I am giving it till the 6 months mark, if I didn't see any improvement or at lest the shedding didn't stop. I will quite it.
did you experience any acne or increasing in libido along with the shedding ?
and did the shedding started right after taking the first pill ?

Yes, I think 6 months is a reasonable time frame to start looking other treatments if there isn't any positive sign.. I respect the people who say wait a year but in my opinion if you just keep getting worse and worse by month six, you're only wasting valuable time to start another treatment that may work..

I did experience increase of libido in the beginning but it normalized with time and wasn't related with shedding. But acne yes. I knew I was going to shed a lot when I had awful back acne and itching/burning sensation on my scalp... My shed started in the third week or so and got really bad in the end of the second month... I never recovered from the sheds unfortunately

seems we are on the same boat: having reflex hypoandrogenic from finasteride.
I am sorry for you.
Hope you will get better and please keep me up if anything positive happened to you (recovered your hair or tried another treatment and recovered some hair).
Thanks for your replies.

I've been on it for nearly 2 months, and after about 3-4 days I noticed a MASSIVE increase in sex drive. I tried ruling out other things but my diet, gym routine etc... has stayed consistent so I doubt it's to do with that. I've not been on any other medication either.

At first I thought it was psychological, but I was expecting the opposite to happen, and I have such frequent "arousal" down below, like a 16 year old! My "wood" is "better" than ever, and I'm just a bit blindsided.

The question: Does this perhaps call into question whether finasteride actually works for me? Surely this might suggest that it may not work ( or may work differently) since these symptoms seem so uncharacteristic of most users? Also, do you know of anyone else who has experienced this?

Thanks!

I will, of course, continue use, but I'm not sure if I like this massive spike in energy and sex drive...
finasteride reduced my sex drive a bit, didn't help my hair though.

To be honest with you my friends, ill give you my "two" cents (read. Thousand of bs blabla) STOP f*****g PANIC WHEN YOU SHED ON MEDS!!! How you can be that un-educated... If you shed on meds it meants be f*****g patient finally! Just sit, and wait, take meds, get relax and give it time. Nothing coming instantly, Someone needs weeks, someone needs months and someone needs f*****g years but believe in this and wait wait and fxking wait. Keep your sh*t, do something! Improve yourself, hobbies etc dont overthink meds, give it a try... give it a chance. everything needs time!

Hate me or no, but i am starting to be tired of all private messages on facebook nor HairLossTalk.com profile asking same questions all the time, i know how painfull hairloss is... I know how problematic this sh*t is, i know the feeling when you're thinking that you're the worst, hopeless and ugly.. asking thousand questions to god - WHY ME?

The true is everyone has its own burden! So get your sh*t together guys, heads up! Take meds, think positive and everything going to be fine! just for f*****g sake look in the mirror, you're the only one.. brave to fight this sh*t, so stop crying, dont panic, dont overstress, dont make depression feeling over your own area, keep focusing on things what you like and love and keep improving yourself. Take these f*****g meds, be patient, be systematic and watch it. Dont count on other people - becouse you need to be first who can count on your own. I know its hard, i know you will say " BLA BLA You're happy cause your lucky " No, hell no! I would write here milion things that i want to have now, things that i would have gone and done right f*****g now to be most happy person but thats not the point...i got my lesson, i got my lesson from saving every single follicle on my balding head for all these years.... to let my old friends finaly telling me, that i have more hair than they had in high school.

It was worth it

Get your smile on your face finally, stop being pussy

When i was on finasteride for the first time, i thought i had most awfull sides including everything related to "side effects" on leaflet, i thought finasteride killed me. I changed my mindset one day and what? I got back on finasteride after half year break and Finasteride increased my sex drive, and it stayed TOP ROOF - So how? How its possible? I got my hair back after some time, so why my sex drive would be low? I have sex with my girlfriend sometimes even 3 times per day (BTW i meet her while i was in really bad shape including hair), why it should be low? The only depression i had it was from hairloss, depression made my libido 0, erections 0 mood 0 everytning was 0. But i changed my mindset, to be positive about everything, even the thing called hairloss with is worse than cancer in our situation i just LET IT GO! If you have chance to atleast TRY to give it a CHANCE to change. Go for it... You want mental support? Even if sometimes i am very tired of some people ill always and always answer. Hit me on facebook. For your information, i have helped a lot of people, and many will come to get help. But i started to battle at 17, and on 23 march i turned 22 years old. And i am the Winner of this lotery of whatever to call this... SO CHANGE YOUR f*****g MINDSET!!!!!!11

TL;DR version : idc You better read this.

I experienced increase in erectile function after taking supplements to inhibit dht. Mainly omega 3 and gla in the last 2 years.

Started on finasteride a month ago, it reduced the morning wood compared to omega 3 and gla.
But still there is lingering sensation of libido on my penis.

In fact this is my second time starting finasteride after 15 years. The first time I started in 2005 with generic finpecia I experienced the classic side for a few months and I stopped finasteride in 2005. The libido returned but not the same as before starting finasteride what I believe this is what happened

In 2005 my dht was highest. When starting finasteride it knocked down the dht to and gave a shock to the body since u are messing with hormones.

Since then the body system adopted to a lower level of dht due to finasteride inhibited the alpha 5 reductase which actually tells me that this enzyme can be reduced in the body to a permanent lower level? This is why the second time restarting finasteride after 15 years I did not experienced much sides . However this is just my theory

Happened to me as well. I really thought that I had hit a jackpot . Told the Doctor about the pleasent stuff but he poured cold water on my dreams.:(
I don't remember what he said exactly but it was on the line that since testestorone (or dht dont remember) in our body is repressed by finasteride, so initially body start producing it even more to counteract this, therefore the libido increase massively. However within few weeks body will adjust and sh*t starts to slide back and back.
Testosterone is produced from foods u eat. Your body doesn't produce extra testosterone because u took finasteride. It's because due to finasteride more testosterone is available since less of it is now converted to dht

Well, this is actually something alot of people experience, this is why:

For a great libido, u need a good BALANCE of hormones. Most likely, before finasteride, you had too high DHT, too low estrogen, for a good libido.

WIth finasteride, you reduce your DHT, while your estrogen increase approx 10%, along with a 10-15% increase in testosterone, this makes your BALANCE "better" for a good libido, hence ur libido goes up.

Other people, they get a BAD BALANCE with finasteride, so their libido goes down.

It all has to do with what ur hormone levels was before threatment - in your case, finasteride seems to have made them better (for a good libido), be happy.
I believe only a small percentage of people on finasteride experience loss of libido and other effects

I've never took it. However, I understand how one can feel frustrating about loss of libido or erection. I used to take Generic Cialis because I experienced lowering of my sex drive because of anxiety. Not the best experience in my life.
