Alright so I have finally decided to do something about my hairloss. I am 23 years old and have significant balding on the front sides of my hair. I believe my hair is also starting to thin. I recently bought 2 bottles of regenepure dr, not sure how helpful it is going to be. I see everyone suggusts to take finasteride pills and while I am not too concerned with the side-effects, I am very concerned about the risk of colon cancer. I have read a few studies that finasteride has decrease same colon cancer but increased the risk of aggresive colon cancer. How does everyone here feel about this and do you have any studies to back up claims? I am not too interested in using minoxidil because the fact you need to continue using it all the time to maintain.

Thank you for your support!

you do know that you also need to keep using finasteride to maintain ? If you stop using finasteride you will lose the hair that would have otherwise been lost.

You didn't understand the study. Of course, when you take out the low-risk ones, the relative incidence for high risk cancer will be higher. "Relative" is the key point here. finasteride does not increase cancer risk (or at least not as far as anyone knows - except for people misinterpreting that study).

So does the study mean that it does not increase the risk of colon cancer, just hurt the docotrs from discovering it?

Also does it take a doctors perscription to obtain finasteride?

Sorry for all the concerns, I am just a newbie when it comes to hairloss prevention

And where is the link for it? I thought the bones of contention were with finasteride and breast/prostrate cancer. Not gastro. Anyway it's pretty much bs or very low risk compared to other stuff.

I think u mean prostate cancer. its complicated. It decreases low grade and increases risk of high grade if I remember correctly. Not sure if its a huge problem to worry about it you are a guy in your 20s, and you can keep an eye on it

Bump.. still interested. And will a general docter prescribe this?

I think they can´t. At least in my country. Go to a dermatologist and tell him you are interested in finasteride also he will be able to resolve your doubts better than us. It is good you are concerned about possible risks and want to be fully informed before start taking it, that way your decision would be entirely conscious and never be sorry. If you are worry about finasteride sides, having a controlled treatment by a dermatologist with appointments every X months, bloodworks, etc. is always safer.

So I just got prescribed finasteride. Only tjing is that my local Publix charged $65 for a 30 day perscription, thats over $700 per year! Anyone know how to find a cheaper place to buy finasteride, perhaps online?

Try buying generic brand from your local costco, wallmart or target pharmacy. i spend $24 for my 3 month supply of generic 1 mg finasteride at costco.

Can you take a prescription from a derm and just go back to your normal Doctor for the refills just to save money from seeing the derm more times?

finasteride increases intraprostatic testosterone 7 fold. Men as young as their 20's can have small cancerous nodules on the prostate that this increase of T can help grow. DHT plays a big role in these too, and 5ar inhibitors help slow the growth of these as well as the prostate. The shrinking of the prostate can make it harder to detect nodule growth and thus lead to higher grade cancer. Get checked regularly if you want, but at a young age its not too much of a worry.
