Hello all,

Quick backstory, started seeing subtle hair loss in my hairline on one side (my left side) around 21, waited a year like most thinking what i should do, and I took finasteride at 22, and now at 23 I have assessed my hairline again. Please note, I only experienced hair loss in my hairline a little. I think i caught hair loss fairly early!

Over this year on finasteride, I experienced no sides. BUT, i do want to point out that before i started taking finasteride everyday, I took finasteride 1 time a week, and slowly made my way to everyday. I have heard this is an effective way to avoid sides. Some subtle ball ache in the first 3-4 months, but that was it. My libido is honestly normal. Just want to give some hope for those that are thinking about starting finasteride. I am attaching photos from when i started treatment, to today which marks a full year. While i dont think i got regrowth, i do think i have maintained which shouldn't be taken as a loss because it means finasteride is working! And some say regrowth can occur well after the 1 year mark.

***The pictures that cover my face are from the start of treatment, and the ones where the phone is covering my face are from today***

To be honest, I think your hair looks really good in all those pics! Good you took matters into your own hands and started doing something about it and very nice to hear you tolerate finasteride well. Encouraging for me as someone who’s still wondering what to do!

Thanks Charlie! I would say if you have caught it fairly early and are on the edge about finasteride like I was, I would try to ease into finasteride slowly. It worked very well for me and i know others that have had that same experience. Try it and worst case scenario you come off it

davesmith420, I’m not sure if your f**king with me or not bro

I'm not.

That "thinness" with your hair can easily be manipulated with harsh lighting. Were you ever diagnosed with male pattern baldness? If you ever, good job on getting on finasteride at the right time, we're in the same boat then.

Davesmith420, I had a specialist look at it and said it was nothing too concerning but my dad is bald so I figured I was going to go down that same route. But yea I agree i started this at a great time. Hopefully you can maintain as well!

As long as finasteride is cheap for you and isn’t causing sides I would stay in it then. You could probably do a low dose like .5 mg.

I find it honestly hard to believe that I was apparently never losing hair. My left side is clearly a bit more receded but definitely it’s been holding up well

What do you mean?

He means that you never had any loss.

But you had a specialist look at it, so I assume that he used a dermatoscope and saw minituarised hair that isn’t visible to the human eye. If so, you’ve made a very smart move that most people don’t.

When did your dad go bald? I was thinking you jumped the gun too early before seeing this but if your dad balded in his 20s then you may have made the right choice.

My dad was a Norwood 2.5-3 by 28 years old. I’m actually finding it surprising that ppl here are saying I have no loss. While the hair clinic I went to didn’t check it with a scope for minaturized hair, she said it would be a good idea to start finasteride given my dad’s history. Also, I experienced the classic hair itch/burn in the hairline corner I was losing hair.
