Don't worry too much about finasteride side effects...

finasteride will ruin your health.

How can you make a statement like this? You took the drug for 3 days!

I don't want to get into one of these stupid "flame wars" here, so I'm just going to say that, in my opinion, you're not in the least bit qualified to make this kind of statement, and it's frustrating to see you make it.

I suggest continuing with the drug for at least a month, THEN decide whether you've got side effects..

Just my humble opinion, and of course you're the master of your own decisions.

Good luck :)

brentx, look, if you think finasteride is the right thing for you then go for it.

I for myself never experienced that kind of brain fog (similar to being drunk; feeling distanced) except when I was on finasteride. I couldn't possibly imagine how I could take an exam (and since I am a uni student, I have many of them) when having this feeling.

Everyone can have his own opinion. Some people say finasteride is good for some and bad for others. My opinion is that finasteride is bad for everybody IN THE LONG TERM.

Look, I have nothing to gain; I even thought that finasteride is the cure to my male pattern baldness a week ago. But my experience proved otherwise. My personal recommendation is that it's not worth using finasteride for hair loss no matter whether you experience side effects right now or not. I'd rather have mental healthiness in the years to come (of course, I say this as someone who experienced mental sides (though I never believed they could happen)).

Each to their own...

OK, no worries.

I've been on the drug for over 2 years, so I hope you're wrong for my sake!

Have a good one, and good luck with any future male pattern baldness treatments you might have a go at. :)

I've never really worried about sides much (as I've experience none), but with 2 things I used to worry about, like Brent I figured out afterawhile it was no different from before.. I think I just immediatly attributed it to the finasteride because of all the scare stories here. I got stressed out once after I started finasteride because when I took someone home and we were making out I was only semi, and we kinda dropped it but we sorted it out later on haha.. :innocent: (sorry TMI) ANYWAY, I was worrying about it a bit.. but then I realised I've always been like that with someone at first, unless I'm wasted from a night out, cuz I'm just a bit self conscience to start with.. and I guess worrying about hair doesn't make that better.. anyway it's all good really. :punk: I need to be broken in :p

Some people put anything down to finasteride, as if they expect never to get ill at all the the future, any illness or negative things are down to their finasteride.

Also I don't see how people who have a limp dick can put it down to finasteride, thats a physiological issue if you CAN'T, if finasteride would effect anything to do with sex it would lower your desire for it, not STOP you getting an erection, it's all in the head.

The first post is not misleading in the slightest. It's his experience with his doctor, that's all. It's also right on the money from what I've experienced over the last 2 and a bit years on finasteride.

Maybe add a line like "EDIT: I no longer believe this, see page 3", but definitely not a major re-write.

WTF.!?

Yeah, I wish I had worried more about the sides. I stayed away from finasteride/dutasteride for almost 3 years of hair loss because of the horror stories. Logically, I looked at them and decided that even if it is a 1% chance (I believed that the rate is much higher), I'm not taking it.

For various reasons I lifted the embargo a few months ago. I was shedding a ton and didn't want to continue with my previous regimen. I didn't have any effects at all initially, aside from less hair sheeding in the shower. Over time I noticed that my voice was cracking. I'm 26, and have a very deep voice, so this was awkward but it wasn't a reason a stop. After two months on the drug I noticed that I was growing breasts. Gyno was definitely a reason to stop and I did so immediately, but they haven't gone anywhere as of yet.

I took a calculated risk knowing what I may be getting into so I'm not laying blame on anyone other than myself, but it was a very stupid thing to do. I kick myself every time I walk past a mirror or look down. Being bald is definitely better than feeling like half a freak, I'm just hoping it subsides over time.

My last post I claimed to of quit taking the big three finasteride, nizoral, and minoxidil. However I only stop taking the minoxidil since I couldn't just bring myself to quit finasteride and nizoral since everyone here said the side effects would discontinue.

I been taking finasteride and nizoral for the last two months and definitely have had huge side effects from the taking finasteride. Right away my libido dropped and wasn't really enjoying sex anymore since it felt less sensitive and also had the watery semen. Also I can't even remember the last time I had morning wood which I would have almost every day in the morning before taking finasteride.

After reading this post I don't care what people say on this forum there is clear side effects of reduced libido from taking finasteride. Everything from the watery semen to the having trouble getting it up. I understand that I shouldn't be horny as I was in my teens but there has been a huge drop off in my libido.

I been battling to swallow that pill every night knowing what it was doing to my body. Then again I come back to this forum to try to get reassurance that the sides will eventually pass but its clear this doing something bad to my body. Also I much slower and less alert with foggy head sides as well. I mean I swear I think sometimes are filled with members who have an agenda or maybe somehow interest are aligned with popularity of finasteride.

Everyone claims that most sides go away within a few weeks which in my opinion feel is not true. I mean it sucks that my hair is thinning but how far I'm willing to go just to keep it? Obviously its affecting my sexual happiness and also my cognitive power so just before I got my proscar and pill splitter and finally broke free and dumped them in the trash.

Last one left standing is nizoral so we will where that goes.

Some guys have claimed that taking 100mg of DIM along with Finasteride helps a lot with the side effects, especially if you've got elevated E2 levels.

DIM apparently converts excessive "bad estrogens" into "good estrogens" without disrupting the entire endocrine system too much.

I don't know, just a thought. I don't know too much about it. Google it if you like.

Im naturally stupid so brain fog or stupidity was my normal and its not worse then that so i roll with it.

So did your "seaman" fall over the side of his ship into the ocean, and now he's all watery? :)

This isn't just a question of estrogen and testosterone. 5AR2 also affects other functions in the body and you surely don't want to stop them.

Lucky that finasteride doesn't block 100% of it then.. isn't it?

I've still yet to get any sides after 7 months.

I have had three different doctors prescribe me finasteride over the years

Not a single one of them said they had anyone with side effects except for one. And she claimed the guy got "dry mouth"

I don't doubt that there is plenty (a majority) who experience no side effects on finasteride... and you're all lucky bastards.

I hadn't experienced a morning erection in the 2+ years I was on finasteride. Now that I've stopped things are returning to normal - though there appears to be residual side effects that haven't left - but my overall sexual health has vastly improved. Was I imagining side effects for 2 years and 7 months? Perhaps, I guess it's possible, but I doubt it.

I can't speak for those experiencing brain fog/breast growth/etc but I'm confident that the sexual side effects are very real.

It's a shame as finasteride has done a fantastic job with my hair. I was very reluctant to quit, but not being able to have an intimate relationship because of it just isn't worth it. I just pray that spironolactone can do the job as well as finasteride...

Been on finasteride for 10 years (started at age 18).

I took Propecia for 7 years and then switched to a quarter pill of Proscar.

I have been a diffuse thinner since 16 years old, and I mean really really diffuse. I've never used Minoxidil because my daily routine can't simply accomodate having to apply it twice daily, and because it makes my hair look terrible.

Side effects of finasteride in me? Zero.

Has it made my hair better? Has it improved my baldness? Well, I don't know... I could say that in the last 10 years my hair count has been very slowly declining. Right now, using toppik and others, I can still manage to look not bald at all.

The important things is that I DON'T know how it would have been without propecia... Perhaps I would be totally bald now... perhaps my life would be much better and I would have much more hair?... No one knows.

Of course that there are many people experiencing side effects with finasteride, but you must think that:
- The ones who DON'T have side effects wont probably come to this forum, let alone this thread
- The ones who are scared as hell about the side effects, will most probably experience them... yes, our brain is very powerful..
- Lots of people who seem to be experiencing side effects, didn't noticed that they already experienced them before finasteride.
- Many people, from the moment they start finasteride, get the habit of assuming that everything they experience from then on is caused by finasteride, as if there weren't any other diseases in this world.

All this to say that there will always be someone with side effects... even placebo yelds LOTS of side effects... Either you know you need or don't need the drug. If you do need it... try it for some weeks, adjust its dosage, and then decide.

Have any of the people that got the ED side effect tried to counteract it? My guess it they have not.

I've been taking 5mg of finasteride for almost a year now and just this month finally had trouble getting and maintaining an errection. Simple fix. I just started taking ZMA & Iodine. 5 days later, problem fixed.

I don't think my inability to get and maintain an errection was from finasteride though. Prolly was deficient in Zinc and Iodine. Would have to be deficient in zinc for ZMA to work anyway.
