Hi gents i'm considering taking the plunge on a system, thanks so much for this forum its a hugely valuable source of information. One concern I do have is that I live alone and i'm worried that without the help of a partner I simply would not be able to refit the unit correctly after cleaning, particularly at the back & top of my head. Does anyone here manage to successfully do all their own maintenance or will I really need some assistance; obviously it has to look right & stay secure. Apologies for the rookie type question i'm afraid I thought I could get it fitted & it would be maintenance free for 6 weeks or so until I needed a trim; I now understand I will need to remove it once or twice a week for hygiene maintenance? Any help/advice/observations would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it definitely can be done singlehanded. I would say most guys who do their own maintenance do it singlehanded, for fairly obvious reasons. It's not that difficult to get the system on so that it looks good. What is a bit more difficult, and takes more practice, is to get it on so that it can't be felt. Is that an issue for you?
I think the average time between removals is around 10 - 14 days. Some people get away with 3 weeks, depending on how active they are and what adhesives they use.

A lot of us do the maintenance on our own. You won't actually know how capable/easy/hard it is until you try it, but for sure you will improve with practise. You will need to make sure you have all the right tools and products at home.
I found, in my case, it is better to never remove the system completely. If I take it off then I really struggle with placement and hairs get stuck underneath and I get all sorts of issues that cause major stress. So instead, I do the back half first and then the front half. I find it's SO much quicker and easier this way. BTW I have a UTS system that is fully-bonded with glue.
I go to the salon every couple of months for a full refit. It's a bit of a treat for me really and it ensures that I get a proper cleanup.

I do my own maintenance, and haircuts, as well (not cut-ins). At first, it was a bit terrorizing. Now that I have the techniques down, it's a snap, and actually enjoyable.
I tend to sweat, so I remove, clean and replace once a week. I use tape, so it's pretty easy.

The hair doesn't really get dirty. It's not like sweat or anything gets in it, so the only thing on the hair is either dust (literally, I can see it on my hairbrush sometimes!) or any product that I use on the hair.
I wash the hair once a week while it is attached to my head. It's a UTS system, so maybe that's why it's easy this way.
I have never worn a lace system, but I think I read somewhere that it's not a good idea to wash that while it's on your head for some reason?

Hey Noah, thanks so much for your help can I ask you to expand on your can’t be felt line. Not sure if it’s an issue for me because in truth i’m Not totally sure what you mean? Sorry for being a numbnuts.

My fault for not being clear, Shamrock.
Everyone wants their system to LOOK natural and authentic, and that is not too difficult to achieve. But some people are also concerned that, if they have people (usually potential sexual partners) running their hands though their hair, the hair system will not be detectable to FEEL either, and therefore will not give away the fact that they wear. To get the system so that it is not detectable (or at least, very difficult to detect) by touch, requires a particular design of system and a very accurate placement - no gaps or overlaps or wrinkles.
This is only an issue if you have people running their fingers through your hair who don't know about your system, and who you don't want to know - so probably only if you are in the dating market.
