DHT and Other Hair on the Body?

Does anyone know if DHT effects other hair on the body? I'm talking about hair on the sides of the head, chest hair, stomach hair, beards, etc? (in other words, aside from those follicles that are genetically susceptible to DHT...or the pattern of male pattern baldness on the head).

I'm just wondering, because I'm coming up on close to my third month of treatment w/ finasteride. I had a few very mild sides (I went through a pretty good shed, which appears to be subsiding...and I also had what seemed to be a mild loss of libido, which seems to be getting better also). I had mild hair loss to start, but the hair on my crown is showing small signs of improvement, and also the hair in my hairline is looking a titch better too. But, my beard seems to be doing AWESOME too all of a sudden! I'm 29 and I could grow an average to OK beard before...but there were still a few places where it wasn't coming in very well (like up higher on my cheeks, and a little bit in the front of my chin area underneath my bottom lip). Now it's thickening up in those places (and in places where it grew well to start, it's really doing well)! I have really dark hair to start...dark brown, almost black...and it seems like I can grow a pretty awesome pirate beard right now. haha. Anyone ever heard of this?

From what I understand having more DHT will give you a thicker beard and more body hair. Therefore the finasteride should make your beard thinner if anything. Are you also taking minoxidil?

Yeah but your beard area is close to your scalp so the minoxidil could be being absorbed and making your beard thicker.

wtf? That is very odd. DHT has the exact opposite effect on body/beard/eyebrow hair as it has on scalp hair. Only long shot explanation (semi shot in the dark) is that finasteride is an anti-inflammatory and so it might be relieving autoimmune hair loss on your body hair.

Actually, scratch that, a more likely explanation is that the slow build up in DHT that was triggering your scalp's hair loss is just now having it's effect on your body hair.
