Hello, so today i went to one of the top dermatologists (hair specialist) in my country, it was very expensive and I got out even more confused than when i got in.

First, he started by asking me if i took any supplements, i told him i took protein powder, he told me to drop it immediately because as he said "All those fast absorption supplements to make muscle fast change your metabolism and can affect your hair."
I really dont know what to think of this...

second, he started bashing on fortifying shampoos and vitamins as they are a waste of money.

then he examined my hair and pulled it a few times in my hairline and crown. Then he proceed to explain that my hairline is just maturing and nothing i do at this moment is going to bring it back as im just loosing my juvenile hair(i really am not sure about this...), then I said that another dermatologist told me to use minoxidil and ive been using it for a year, he told me to drop it as at this stage it could be making me lose my hair faster by changing my hairs metabolism, and said that it doesnt work in my kind of hairloss.
Then he said that i shouldnt start Propecia until im sure it is male pattern baldness and to report back in two years.

Im really not sure about this guy, although he is very famous for his work but some of what his said doesnt add up in my head...

Do you think I should stop minoxidil? I dont think it is working either but I am scared of shedding if I stop.

Ill add some pictures so you can see how my hair is now and how it was 2 months ago, im going through a shed i think. The place highlighted orange are where i apply minoxidil, i also use it in my crown.
I have some other threads with older photos if that helps. Thank you for any feedback.

your hairline looks fine imo.

I started finasteride 8 months ago because I noticed my hairline going back... maybe it was just 'maturing' who knows. Better safe than sorry. Get on it it if you're concerned

Have you noticed any changes in your hair while on minoxidil? I'd drop it personally, I couldn't bothered with it. It's all down to you in the end

Since i started minoxidil it has been getting worse. Im terrified of shedding if i drop it, but i really want to do it...
Have you had any luck with finasteride?

Sounds like he is either stupid, or a liar to me. Your hair does look good, and i'd say wait a little bit longer for finasteride. All his talk of supplements and protein hurting, and hair metabolism sounds like quackery to me however.

I think so yea, not gonna lie it got worse before it got better. My hair is picking up now though, getting regrowth now and hopefully I should be able to maintain it for the foreseeable future.

with regards to minoxidil, I've never tried it but honestly, I just couldn't apply it everyday. I care about my hair but not enough to have to apply that sht twice a day lol.

sure someone on minoxidil will chip in and give you some advice

It's odd that you haven't seen any regrowth from minoxidil. My experience with minoxidil is that whenever I drop it, massive shedding occurs and hair loss becomes more prevalent. All hairs gained from minoxidil are supposed to fall out, but in your case, I am not sure what's gonna happen. I wouldn't drop it if I were you.

Where do you apply it? I only apply it near my temples and crown. And i have had 0 regrownth although i get some of those wierd hairs around my hair line.

I apply everywhere from hairline to crown. I am seeing tiny hairs on my hairline, but they aren't growing into terminal.

I think everything he said makes sense except maybe the protein supplement stuff.

So, do you think i should drop minoxidil? I probably will stop using it in the hairline in the end of august, I dont want to go on holidays shedding too much... I dont think it is being worth it, if it can harm my hairline and keeps me with a head full of white flakes...

If I had most of my hair (I do) I would not mess around with rogain or something that could make it worse through shedding. I would use rogain on bald spots with tiny hair trying to regrow, and propecia to try to maintain. Although I guess he doesnt think propecia can help with mature hairlines and he might be right its kind of risky. I am in a similar situation and just waiting right now hoping CB comes out in a few years and I can try that

What are you taking right now? I know i probably shouldnt have started rogain, but now that i have can i just stop?

makes no sense. what has protein supplements got to do with male pattern baldness? male pattern baldness is genetic

second, he started bashing on fortifying shampoos and vitamins as they are a waste of money.

he's right

He could be right. It's very difficult to discern where a mature hairline ends and male pattern baldness begins

then I said that another dermatologist told me to use minoxidil and ive been using it for a year, he told me to drop it as at this stage it could be making me lose my hair faster by changing my hairs metabolism, and said that it doesnt work in my kind of hairloss.

from those pics you don't appear to have any hairloss (can't see your crown) so I can't see any point in using minoxidil as it rarely works on the temple area anyway

Then he said that i shouldnt start Propecia until im sure it is male pattern baldness and to report back in two years.

he's right

finasteride is an insurance policy...I really wish I hadn't waited so long to get on it. I was in denial for a couple years constantly checking my hair trying to convince myself it wasn't getting worse. By the time I said holy sh*t I got to do something I had already lost a lot of ground. finasteride is best at keeping what you have, and if you are fortunate maybe getting a little back. So the sooner you start the better your chance.

minoxidil I'm personally up in the air on. I don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze. Some people get a little regrowth on it but you constantly have to slop that stuff on your scalp. For me it made me itch so I dropped it before even finishing the first box. finasteride however helped me keep the hair I had for the last 9 years with no sides....
