Hi guys, I'm 21 and since the beggining of the year (february) I notice that I have a hair loss.
At first, I wasn't sure that it was an alopecia cause I didn't lost a lot of hair but my hair was still thinning.
That's when I knew that I suffer from a diffuse alopecia.
Months later, I noticed that I was losing more hair, at first it was 20 a day and now it's more than the double...
So it's happening really fast for me.
Now, I wanna know if I have a DUPA or not because some sides of my head are suspicious (I don't lost any hair tho but it can be minisaturized?) .
I also wanna know if Finasteride works for a DUPA, I started it last week and I think that I endure a shedding for now.
PS : Sorry for my bad english.
I also want to point out that I took these pics with the flash of my phone and that my haircut is like that, I cut a lot more in the sides and behind my head than the top of my head but my sides doesn't grow as much as behind my head. Idk why, maybe a sign of a DUPA ? Thank you!

Hello there! I also seem to have DUPA. My doctor has called it Diffuse hair loss, but he didn't prescribe minoxidil or Fina or anything such since I was diagnosed with vitD and B12 deficiency. I've been taking supplements for both, but hair loss isn't getting any better.
I've heard Fina and miox work best for diffusers.

My advice: Try Finasteride and minoxidil combo.. And let us know.

That’s fucked up. I read that fina may not works on people having a DUPA.
Do you think that I have one tho?
What makes u think that you have one?

Because when you loose hair all over the scalp and don't follow a definite pattern, it is called DUPA. People on this forum also refer DUPA as diffuse thinning.

The problem is that I don't lose my hair all over the scalp. Do you ? Do you find hair in your hands after massaging the sides of your scalp or behind it ? I don't. But, there is these lines and there are parts more thin than others like the sides compared to behind my scalp, maybe it's just how my hair is ? For now, only the top of my head is losing hair and a lot since I started Finastéride. It may be a sign that the treatment works ? I'm very lost rn and dermatologists know nothing about DUPA, maybe I should see a hair specialist but I feel like it's hard to find in Paris.

I'm very suspicious about Minoxidil, I know that it works for some people but I still have my hair and I'm scared that it only get worse with it. The major problem with it is the shedding effect, I'm a student rn and I just can't go to class with a big shedding, maybe I'll take it someday but for now I'm only taking Finastéride.

your hair looks fine and normal, its the texture of your hair that is the cause of it looking like that. Just comb your hair to cover those lines.

Ok thanks. Those lines are a sign of DUPA that's why I was scared but you're right, I don't see them when I cover them with my brush.

Your hair looks fine. Not balding or diffuse thinning at all.
I'm balding... You can't really see it here because I didn't post my hairline but I am. Even my dermatologist told me that.
My hair is only thinning at the top of the crown, and I lost them there a lot too.
I just wanted to know if I have a DUPA or not.

I've got DUPA as well I guess, my hair is thin all over especially the sides. above ears. Its much thinner than yours.

This area is still thin but its maintained and stayed the same over the past 9 months despite the constant heavy shed.

Even with Dupa I don't think you can go completely bald in these area.
The sides are more thinner than it used to be for you ? Do you see a change ?
The problem with it is that I'm scared that Finasteride won't work because I have a DUPA, do you think that I have one ?

From those pics it’s hard to even tell if you’re balding from my perspective . Short hair like that will show skin. Ask your derm if you have dupa. If your derm says you have it then you do.

There’s nothing else for you to really do besides finasteride and minoxidil. I’ve read that they can combat dupa. Ive also heard oral min is good against dupa as well.

I’m 16 months on finasteride and a little past 10 months on oral min. Over this time I’ve shed 100-200 hairs a day. The before and after pictures look the same everywhere on my head except for my hairline which is a little worse. I’m not certain but I think my sides didn’t really start to thin until I started treatment ironically. However it has remained the same over the past 8 months maybe a little better. Hard to tell.
@Calikid have you done anything for fibrosis, calcification and inflammation? Yes, in that order.

Um.. Fina will work if hairloss is caused by DHT. Get your b12, D, iron(ferritin) and thyroid levels checked. If these are fine, the cause is most likely DHT.

Don’t use topical minoxidil, you will regret it...

Why so? If you have any valid reason, list it. Else don't scare people away from treatments that actually work.

Statistically, it has a questionable rate of success; most users won't notice results. Along with that, his hair texture will make application difficult especially if he decides to grow his hair. It's a life sentence which you will never be able to take breaks from, which isn't a good situation when it comes to a costly topical. If I was him, I would use dutasteride and leave it at that.

I am the last person to scare people from treatments - have you seen my regimen? I am a big believer in many hair loss treatments, but not topical minoxidil.

It doesn't have questionable rates of success. Check out studies/researches, anecdotes on reddit.
Whether it is a life sentence or not is debatable. People growing beard with minoxidil retain their hair after they drop minoxidil given their hair are terminal not vellus.
Morever, I've seen people retain hair after stopping minoxidil., but they consciously or unconsciously do sth for fibrosis and calcification (like massaging or derma rolling etc) or they take Finasteride.

In India it cost me roughly 600rs or 8.5$ for a monthly(?) supply of MorrF which has minoxidil 5% and fina .1% as its ingredients, and it certainly is not costly for me. However, for most Indians, it may be mildly costly, since we're not a very developed country yet.
