Not a dumb question at all. Yes you can. I have known a few guys who have done this. They are rather fiddly to install, and when I have seen it done the result has mostly not been good enough for a fully exposed hairline (i.e. a slicked back of gelled up style), but good enough for other styles. Depending on how your hairloss is, there can be some advantage in shaving a bit of good hair to get a more manageable shape to the hairpiece - e.g. replacing your whole forelock.
