Can tight hats cause hair loss?

I am starting to notice what I think is some thinning of my hair, right in the center front part above my forehead. I am 37, have a normal thyroid level (was just checked), and have no idea of any other health problems. What I am wondering is if the fact that I have been wearing a rather tight-fitting, wind-proof toque since the weather has been cold (a couple of months) could be causing this. I also wear the toque under a riding helmet (I am an equestrian), which puts a bit of pressure on the area that seems to be thinning.
Could this cause the thinning, or is there likely something else going on? Thank you for any info!

Any excessive or constant pulling of the hair can cause you to lose your hair. But this is usually in cases where people get corn rows, not so much in tight fitted hats. But I wouldn't be suprised if that is the case also.
