I've been on propecia for 1 week. The whole top of my head and back is suffering from miniaturization. I was told propecia only stops hairloss and cannot make the hair shafts any thicker. Is this true? I wouldn't be all that happy with just slow down or stoppage of

That is untrue-finasteride and many other treatments have worked wonders for many, and yet for many others a lot of benefits. Your loss is extensive, but your hairline is intact-not receding, and in nice full wide U shape. I like to think finasteride will do wonder for you thickening up all the thin areas, at least to a certain point that you would be happy. Recovering receded hairline at front/temples is hardest and at least you don't have to worry about that part.

I believe minoxidil works better with diffusers like you so you could be a good candidate. its pretty pointless using minoxidil without Finasteride though

Mentalist - I hope your right. Hope propecia will help me out. I feel I'm having side effects already. Can't maintain an erection and eq isn't what it was pre-finasteride. Don't want to give up tho

I believe that studies show that about 50% or the users of finasteride grow back some hair, so it could work. Adding minoxidil will improve the odds even more.

Also have you tried using a concealer like Toppik?

Worst case, you can use finasteride and minoxidil to keep your existing hair and a concealer to add thickness.

Yes I use toppik. Although not recent because I buzzed my head with 1 guard so I can cover it up anymore. U could still see the balding outline on the back of my head with. 1 buzz cut :/

Should I wait 3 months on propecia before adding minoxidil? I just hear ppl saying that rogaine, Kirkland is aabsoulute crap and won't do much for hair growth. I just don't wanna waste money on something that might not work.

I have the exact same type of loss as you. Perfect hairline and thin on top.

I was able to maintain what I had with finasteride but had to stop as I thought it may have been responsible for some other health issues.

Needless to say it got worse. I'm now back on it and clipped my hair to number 1. I'm also using minoxidil, and it's a lot easier to apply now that the hair is short.

I've given up on toppik, it gets harder to apply as your hair gets thinner.

My advice to you would be to keep it buzzed down to a 1 and try finasteride and minoxidil for 6 months. If you don't get any regrowth then ditch the minoxidil but keep on with the finasteride which will maintain what you have.

Stay off the toppik/nanogen during this time as it might be making your hair worse.

Besides toppik/nanogen is always visible in bright lights and sunlight. I used to think it looked good until I got my haircut at the barbers under bright lights and could clearly see the difference in colour where it was applied and I have black hair!

Not to mention embarrassing situations like leaving residue on dentist chairs etc ;)

Erections are difficult to maintain. Weaker erections. I also been feeling a little pain under my right nipple. When I push it it feels like a bruise. Is this a symptom of gyno?

they're symptoms of nocebo/'phantom side effects' syndrome - ie. if you convince yourself you'll get side effects from finasteride, you probably will. and the more you stress about them, the worse they'll seem.

Just IMO of course. If you're genuinely concerned, consult a doctor

WHy don't you give finasteride a proper go? You do know there are potential side effects for minoxidil too don't you?
