Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (25) - 19 days in update on page 2

You only a few days in. Chill out, take a deep breath and stop with the pictures.

You gonna seriously frustrate yourself looking at it non stop and its not good for you. You took your start pictures. In a month, take another set. A month after take another set. Hell, go 3 months but not every week.

I thought the hardest bit was trying to start the treatment, its really not. Waiting for results is so much harder.

Yes I'm 19 days in. I will try and updated with changes that I notice and since I got a haircut I figured it was a good update. I will try to update at the end of August. i hope that by December I know whether or not it is working and whether I should start with Rogaine as well or just shave the head or even at the worst do a wig.

As per side effects. I've noticed puffy nipples recently. Anyone else notice this.

It's really hard to tell..i 'noticed' this myself, however looking back i've always had those type of puffy nipples, so it's best not to look into it unless there's some significant change.

As for rogaine...my advice would be not to start it but if you want to take the 'risk', then go for it.

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (25) - 19 days in update on page 2

So it has been 2.5 months, I will post pictures. I have noticed more thinning on the right temple but in general it seems that aside from that there has been a slight decrease in the thinning look. I do still notice some areas are thinner but in general it is thinning at a slower pace. I do still see a lot of hairs when I shower and everything like that.

Also as per the gyno issue I mentioned earlier. I have seen a slight increase in size but that could be due to me stopping my gym routine for the last 2 months. Still a little concerned about the breast enlargement and puffier nipples. They may have been like that before it just seems it is more noticeable now. By no means are they anything i've seen online in pictures but slightly bigger. Maybe 1cm.

Pictures on progress this weekend.

Auote from the user "Enden" on this forum from a post he made:

"Believe me, you'll know for sure if you're developing gynecomastia. It's very painful when it begins to grow, and you'll feel lumps all over the chest around the nipples."
If your interested in the thread it was from its here:

Hope its OK that i quoted you if you see this, Enden :)

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (25 / 19 days in update on page 3)

Okay so it seems to be holding steady in all areas except the front. The front has gotten worse. I am 4 months in now. At months 6-8 I will consider adding Rogaine to the hairline.

I grew my hair out a little so it is a bit easier to cover with a comb over for work but going out is a bit tough.

I have also noticed my scalp being drier and itchier lately. I use Desonide and Trianiciclone infrequently to treat this.

I have been very inconsistent with Nizorol but I am very consistent with 1.25mg of Finesteride daily.

The sooner you start using minoxidil, the better imo.

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (25 / 19 days in update on page 3)

...and this is with a little bit of "Hair Cubed" in it..

basically 5 months in, finesteride 1.25 mg every day has definitely not improved the situation...may have slowed it a little but I can still see lots of hair loss

giving it 3 more months before i get on minoxidil....havent used Nizoral in 2 months.

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (5 month update on page 4)

It doesn't look better but it doesn't really look much worse.

How strong are the genetics for thinning hair in your family?

You might want to consider getting on minoxidil along with the finasteride.

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (5 month update on page 4)

Waiting 3 more months before I get on minoxidil....trying to see if the 6 month mark to 8 month mark shows any improvement.

I noticed that it looks thicker and better in the crown and vertex (i guess the top back and on the top middle) but the front and hairline look much worse especially around the temples.
------------------------------
Weird genetics in my family.

Father's Side:
Father's temples thinned at 30 and and the back top thinned only at 50 but he still has thick hair on top in the middle.

His brother has a full head of hair at 45 no balding at all.

Grandfather had similar genetics as my father.

Grandmother, not sure.

Mother's Side:

Mother had thinning at 45.

Her 1 brother went completely bald while the other had the horseshoe

Grandfather just turned 90 and basically has a full head of hair.

Grandmother no thinning
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a picture I just took with the front wet

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (10.5 month update on page 4)

Okay so everything seemed to be going well till my most recent hair cut....not it looks extremely thin in the front and middle..I have not noticed much shedding anywhere but i can see it is thinner...not sure if this is one of those thin cycles....I am at 10 months, 20 days....I will give it until july 1st without a haircut and compare (that will be one year)...if I am not happy, minoxidil is next.

Re: Boulder25Male's Story - (10.5 month update on page 4)

11.5 months

Conclusion: finasteride/Propecia does NOT regrow hair for me. It may have slowed the loss down and may have sustained the hair around the sides but I don't know what it would have been like if I did not take it. The thinning I have is in the hairline/front and kind of up the middle a little.

Looks like I have to start minoxidil for the thinning in the hairline/front/middle.
