Beginning hair loss - What to do?

Nice forum!

I started noticing hair in the shower in mid-August. I would shampoo and then have excess hair on my hands, more than normal. I never noticed it before, it kind of shocked me. I'm 24 by the way.

Well, it continued and now it's mid-October and I'm worried.

No one can tell, I can't even tell. I see maybe some thinning but that's only when my hair is wet, so it's possible that it's my imagination. I don't see hair on my pillow or anything, aside from literally a few hairs.

It's just mostly when I take a shower. If, when I have dry hair, go over the sink and and rough up my hair a bit, an alarming amount falls out, maybe 30-50 hairs.

Anyways, what should I do? Is the first step always a doctor, and, if so, any doctor or a dermatologist specifically? I have been told Rogaine Foam is pretty good, should I just go out and get that now before anything?

Like I said, I can't see any loss on my head for sure, but I know hair is falling out. I'd like to get started with any treatment early, obviously. How does the loss usually start and how long, without treatment, before there would be a noticeable loss of hair?

trust me when your hair starts to thin, you will know.

Visit a derm right away to find out the cause and deal with it immediately. Many of us will tell us how much we wish we took actions earlier, GL man!

alright mate

1. Your hair is at it's weakest when it's wet and thus breaks and falls out easily, especially when you rub it hard after a shower. So I'd say what you're seeing is pretty normal.

2. Post some pics of your hair and we'll tell you if you're losing or not. Before I started treatments, I didn't think I was losing and no one else did either. But now, when I look back at pictures of myself, I can see it quite obviously.

3. You are at an age where the beginnings of hairloss is quite common, so do keep an eye on your hair.

Don't panic, help is at hand :)

Finasteride as the actice ingredient of Propecia/Proscar/Finpecia/Fincar and minoxidil as the active ingredient of Rogaine/Kirkland. that´s your way to go!

If you think you are losing your hair, you probably are losing it.

Good, you are honest to yourself. Most people (me for instance :( ) are in denial at the early stages.

Oh, like in the same way bulimic girls think they're fat?

Don´t know, for being honest I have never seen a bulimic girl on the street. But every time I leave the house I see dozens of fat/overweight women. Anorexia to me is just a media hype promoted by fat, middle-aged women. But this another topic. The point is that those you come here and start like "Am I losing it?" usually get the reply "Yes, you are!" People don´t join hairloss forums for nothing.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying Taug and I agree to a certain extent. I was just pointing out that people's self-perception doesn't quite match the reality. You are a classic example of this :)

Thanks for the responses!

One question: The only thing I can think of that may correlate in my life to this is that in late May/early June I started taking vitamins. Ever since then, I have basically been talking daily multi-vitamins, fish oil, and protein shakes. I also started going to the gym 4-5 days a week. Would this have had any effect on what I am seeing now?

Also, I'll see about getting some pics up.

I personaly dont believe weight training and hair loss are correlated unless you use hardcore suppliments and train like a maniac.

no, these supplements might actually be good for your hair. Some people even use them in their hairloss regimen. I use them too, but not for hair loss reasons. Some claim that working out has a bad effect on their hair. Of course, there is no scientific proof which might support this. Instead you should face the male pattern baldness reality and start treatments.
