Hey all.

Thought id get others view on my situation.

i started losing my hair at 21 and started completely shaving my head at 22. Now at 28, i returned to a hair transplant surgeon who I saw 3 years ago.

I would consider myself with class 4 or possibly a 5. Basically, the Dr. told me that he will not do the transplant incase i continue to bald, which he strongly believes i will. Ive got significant loss in my crown area and also need no more than 700 hairs on my hair line. I also think my hairloss may not be as rapid as it once was.

Although i have the highest respect for this doctor who is a dermatoligist who does many hair transplants, i cant help but question his judgement. I mean i see great results on forums posted by other men ( not clinics) who have far more hair loss than i do.
Anyone have any opinion or experience on this. How common is it to get many hair transplants throughout your life. How many donors does one have?

Any way guys, thanks for any answers. I guess it might make sense to get 2 or 3 opinions first.

Cheers

Have you seen the horrific pictures of guys who continued to lose hair after a transplant? You couldn't pay me to get a hair transplant with today's technology. You would stand a good chance of continuing to lose hair and looking ridiculous and then you aren't left with the option of shaving your head because of the scarring. The only option left then is wearing a toupee.

If they perfect hair multiplication or cloning so you had an endless supply of donor hair then I'd consider it.

It sounds like you have a smart doctor who isn't in it just for the money.

What about for someone who is only losing hair from the crown? Even if their hairline receded it would look natural.

Well perhaps with something like Dutasteride you have a good chance to keep what you have for a long while... perhaps a transplant isn't out of the question. But without DHT blockers it's utterly pointless.

I applaud your Dr's desicion, he is thinking about your wellbeing many Drs would just take the $$ and however things turn out they dont give a sh*t.
An ethical Dr will only perform a hair transplant if you have stabilised/halted your hairloss the most common way by far of doing this is with either finasteride or dutasteride.

Yeah I agree with the guys, that sounds like a good Dr. to me. You can always get a second opinion though. BTW are you on any meds to keep your current hair?

If he wants to find a Dr to perform a hair transplant on him he will. There are surgeons willing to take money from anyone wether they are nw1 or nw7 aged 17 or aged 80.

You can go consult with more docs, getting a consultant online is not the smartest idea.

Are you currently taking any hairloss meds? - If not most self respecting Dr's would not operate until your hairloss is under control with propecia et al.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your responses. I thought my hairloss was under control and ready for a hair transplant. in my late teens and early 20s i didnt have a very healthy lifestyle or social habits which i think added to the hairloss. Yes it was probably going to happen but didnt think so quick. I now live allot healthier.

Suprisingly, i cant do the pil thing. Im that 1% who experience the worst side effects. I am doing monoxidil 5% and a DHT cleanser shampoo. As of recently, ive reduced activities that may increase levels of DHT hoping it will help. I know im not crazy but the hair in my crown is getting thicker but still very sparse.

Im not seeking medical advice here, im just asking for others to share their experiences.

There was a part of me that didnt want to do the hair transplant too. Im confident with my look either way.

Thanks again guys, best of luck to all.

PS. What is the BIG 3???
