It feels like it initially, but you are much more likely to have a typical male pattern baldness.

When I first started freaking out about hair loss, I thought I was losing my hair in a similar pattern, but I was wrong... You look at the mirror and see the middle thinning, etc and that leads to panic :sobbing:

I think you'll have great results with minoxidil since your hair loss is pretty recent and you're young. minoxidil took me from a Norwood 3v to Norwood 2 and ive only been on it three months. Its not as big as a hassle as people make it out to be, just apply at night, takes like 3 min and you're good to go.

IWP, I don't have anywhere as much thinning as that guy but I have a similar pattern but its just this narrow band( maybe about aninch of diffuse thinning) just straight down the middle. I have a true widow's peak( the little bit of hair that is just at the center) and it has diffuse thinning and that goes back just to about my mid scalp. Its kind of female pattern balding. Dr Proctor mentioned that this type of pattern responds good to treatments. I think it responds good with minoxidil because I went back on minoxidil twice per day now and its doing much better. I think you probably will benefit with minoxidil as well.

I would be very surprised if minoxidil didn't work. I used it for 8 months. Although the results have been negligible, ie no major cosmetic difference, I still think it has thickened my hair.

The only disadvantage is that it is a life time commitment. You have to apply it twice a day, and all the gains you may have are temporary.

i think finasteride may be enough in my case but im using minoxidil anyways as its only thing known for decent frontal growth( if lucky). If i was to regrow a little in the centre of my hairline and keep it that way for afew years id be a happy man. temples arent a problem just yet and finasteride should thicken my hair in general. im taking lots of fotos. I am documenting progress on everything, even temple points. 3month results will be interesting to look at.

The problem with minoxidil is it causes facial bloating and water retention. Secondly, your hairs become dependent on it. I know this is debatable but I also think surrounding non-miniaturized hairs that make contact with minoxidil also become dependent on minoxidil as a super enhancer too. And at some point you may feel its not helping much especially when you get that synchronized shedding and want to quit. Well, I did quit and it was about a year later I noticed my hair starting going downhill very very slowly. I have been back on it for almost a few months and things have thickened up again. So obviously Propecia and minoxidil together are really more powerful then by themselves. Mostly likely too, I made so many new hairs dependent on minoxidil as well. I noticed Casperz had the most progress when he was on Propecia and minoxidil as opposed to just being on minoxidil. Unfortunately, if you want maximum results you have to commit to it for life or until something better comes along. I think the best way to counteract the facial swelling and water retention is to drink lots of water, sweat a lot, and keep the carbs low. IWP, if I were you I would have tried Proctor's Prox-n along with Nano shampoo and conditioner first before minoxidil because it does not cause facial swelling and water retention. Prox-n too works best on recent loss and your type of thinning.

house im only going to use a small app of minoxidil. basically just along the hairline. at most one cm into hair so i shouldnt have the problem of hairs geting dependent cause i wont be puting much on. or does minoxidil affect whole scalp even if not applied there. And is facial bloating a cert? i thought that only happened to some? plus as im only puting a bit on head and smoothing it along hairline surely thats not enough of a dose to give sides is it?

I use only a tiny amount of the foam( less than recommended) and still see facial bloating. However, if your diet is not high in sodium like mine tends to be, you will be fine. I have modified my sodium intake and the bloating is less. Not every gets sides from minoxidil. I guess you will just have to experiment to see how it goes. That is the only way to know for sure how you will do. You say you also have a thyroid problem as well. I always thought I might have too but all my blood work came back normal. My thinning pattern did coincide where I put minoxidil so I guess you will be safe it you just put it where its needed. Just remember you may start to see your hair get worse after about a 4 to 6 weeks on it. Don't stop using it as this will be normal but very hard to accept visually.

Yeah the thyroid is a b**ch. another thing to thank mum for lol. You should keep an eye on yours. our pattern is synonomous with thyroid problems in men. interestingly hair loss in men due to thyroid is always in the front im told by the Doctor. minoxidil starts tonight. prepared for the shed period.

Which minoxidil will you be taking, and your only applying it once at night? that's what i plan on doing once i start on it as well.

The picture you posted is basically the problem that im having as well. i notice it more under direct sunlight rather indoor light.

Its funny how the uk version is spelled differently than the usa version of rogaine. It must be because uk people tend to buy more e vowels than o vowels from Vanna White when they play the Wheel of Fortune.......... Or maybe we just can spell better than the UK.
