It's possible to respond to Dutasteride but not to Finasteride. Me personally, I've never taken Finasteride and went straight to Dutasteride. I've currently been taking Dutasteride for only 16 days and all is going perfectly well.

dutasteride does block a lot more 5AR and of all types, but I'd be scared with blocking the other type personally. finasteride is about as far as I'll go

16 days is not enough to be conclusive bro, not even enough to assume its working but you have a very high chance of it working for you since it works on like 95% of the people but what about the people who fall under the 10% that finasteride doesnt work on???

I'm really worried that its not gonna work for me

I'm aware that 16 days is too little to assume that it's working for me, I was just stating my progress that all is going well, which I meant that I have not had any problems taking Dutasteride.

I'm not worried anymore if I won't respond to the medication. I have responded well to Ketoconazole, Minoxidil, and LLLT, and I'm confident that I will respond well to Dutasteride.

I'm not sure how long you've been taking Dutasteride, I hope you respond well to the medication. Dutasteride will stop male pattern baldness in like 99+ percent of men who take it. You'd have to be extremely unlucky if Dutasteride doesn't work for you.

A lot of people on this forum for whom finasteride didn't work, seem to report the same on Dutasteride. I guess in these individuals the genes win without a fight.

finasteride works for almost 9/10 people long term. It is logical to move to dutasteride if you are not put off by the fact its long term safety is not confirmed.

I may be inclined to try RU in this position rather than dutasteride, different mode of defence and probably less sides to worry about as topical.

So in a nutshell, I would stick with finasteride and add RU. It is a topical though and added hassle.

Wait until the sides hit you all at once during your first month / month and a half of use. What is your dosing?

I tried propecia for 16 month and my hair continued to recede and thin in the hairline at roughly the same pace as it did without the drug. I have been on dutasteride and propecia now for 4 months, my shedding has significantly reduced however I still think i am slowly receding, just at a slower pace. I will keep you updated if I notice any further changes.

Same here, i've been on finasteride for 14 month with a constant hair loss

Added dutasteride EOD for the past 3 months and the hair loss has reduced by a lot... hoping to stabilize and increase hair density

I feel that the more aggressive your hair loss is, the higher dosage you need:

Before starting finasteride i was sheddinng about 300-500 hairs daily
While on finasteride: shedding about 100-150 daily
While on dutasteride: shedding about 50-70 daily

Thanks! :)

Taking Dutasteride for 70 days might be too soon for you to have any difference. A good responder will usually take 2-4 months, sometimes 6 months.

It is very possible that a person might respond much better to dutasteride than finasteride.

finasteride removes 85-90% of the DHT from 5-AR type 2, whereas dutasteride (taken at 0.5mg daily) removes 98-99%, and also additionally removes 50% of the DHT from 5-AR type 1. dutasteride, therefore, is substantially more potent than finasteride as a DHT suppressor, and it would be expected that dutasteride would give significantly better results than finasteride. There is no logic at all in the belief that dutasteride could actually give worse results than finasteride. That makes no sense.
