Hello I am 20 years old and have been worrying about this issue since june 2017 my dad and 2 doctors have said I am not balding but I am sceptical my dad states my hairline has always been like this(worse left side) and the doctors felt I wasn’t.I want/need guidance to understand what is going on once and for all as I feel it is affecting my academic studies my pictures are below and a few questions for which I would be grateful if people could address.

1.Am I balding?

2.Could my dad be correct with the younger pics I have provided?

3.Im not sure the NHS route is possible with my previous doctors statements. In the Uk who should I look to visit for a specialist opinion privately? (north west Uk)

4.I hear from my previous research a drug called finasteride is the best shot at help ,realistically could it help keep my hair til 30ish?

5. I also hear issues of side effects honestly sexual side effects I could reluctantly bear with but issues I am concerned about are depression, brain fog and breast cancer what are the odds of these occurring?.

6.whats the time span for such a process can it stop?

My family history isn’t to bad my dad noticeably receded in his early 30s but has hair today along with his brother according to my dad my Grandfather receded late 20sish and still had okayish hair when he met him in hi late 40s.My mums side is better with many cousins still having decent heads of hair in their mid 30s and 40s my grandad also apparently had good hair

Note:the last top of head photo is under direct lighting, the black and white photo is my grandad

Your hairline is fine, some very minor recession which is totally normal. I'm 20 too and would kill for your hairline! Also get rid of the pedo stache, it ain't doing you any favours.

Your hair line is better than mine but still not great for someone of our age, you don' seem to be thinning elsewhere so id keep an eye on it and take regular pictures to track any progression. You don't want to start hair loss drugs lightly, be certain you need them before you do.

Give it 6 months and reassess with monthly pics id say

Thanks for the replies everyone had mixed responses in the past on the reddit forum so i appreciate you guys taking time to look at my pictures .Im going to follow my dads advice he gave last night and get an appointment with a private dermatologist( i believe they are the experts?) for the ultimate peace of mind
