Advice on seeing a doctor for hair loss

Hello All,

I have decided on seeing a doctor to help me with my hair situation; and I need some advice on how best to go about it. What I would like to have done is the following:

1) baseline hair density analysis
2) good baseline photographs
3) analysis of hormone levels
4) tests to determine if I have any health conditions that cause hair loss (thyroid, heavy metal toxicity, etc).

Is there anything else I should ask about or have done? I am assuming I will need to see two doctors, a dermatologist and an endocrinologist, but perhaps their is some sort of hair specialist type of doctor that fulfills both roles?
Also, do I need references from my general doctor before I can see such people?

Any advice you can give me on how to do this correctly would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

Most people generally see a dermatologist at least once to inquire about hairloss. I did, but it wasn't helpful, I knew more about male pattern baldness than he did, complete waste of time and money. But this is not always the case.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am currently in the early stages of hairloss and trying to reverse the damage. Do you think before I go to the doctor I should shave my head to make the analysis easier? Thanks.
