it is supposed only to thicken up vellus hairs.

P9.123
A RANDOMIZED TRIAL OF ADENOSINE IN ANDROGENETIC ALOPECIA
Yasushi Watanabe, Kelshi Nagashima, Noriro Hanzawa, Masashl Ogo, Akihlro Ishino, Yosuke Nakazawa, Masaaki Uemura, and Masahiro Tajima

Watanabe Dermatological clinic, Tokyo, Shinjuku Biru Clinic, Tokyo, Shiseido Science division, Tokyo and Shiseido Research Center, Yokohama, Japan

Objective: Adenosine up-regulates the expression of fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF7) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on cultured dermal papilla cells via adenosine receptors. We therefore speculated that adenosine stimulates growth of hair fiber due to the action of FGF7 and VEGF for epithelial cells in hair follicles. In this study,we performed a clinical trial to investigate the efficacy and safety of adenosine in hairloss associated with androgenetic alopecia (Androgenetic Alopecia).
Methods: Ahundred and four volunteers with AGAwere registered In a randomized double-blind trial that used an adenosine (0.7S%) topical lotion or niacin amide (0.1%)topical lotion twice daily for 6 months. Efficacy was evaluated by investigator assessments of change in global scalp coverage, change in the ratio of veilus-like(under 40 micrometers in diameter) and thick hairs (not less 60 micrometers or 80 micrometers in diameter), and hair density, in vertex.
Results: Fifty-one of 52 adenosine-treated subjects and 50 of 52 niacin amide-treated subjects completed the 6-month study. For global improvement, adenosine was significantly superior to niacin amide. Treatment with either lotion resulted in a significantlydecreased ratio of vellus- like hair and also significantly increased the ratio of thick hair, but did not change hair density. Regarding the Increase in the ratio of thick hair, adenosine was significantly superior to niacin amide. Adverse effects were not found.
Conclusion: In men with Androgenetic Alopecia, adenosine increased hair growth and thickened vellus-like hair without side effects. It would appear that the efficacy of hair growth results from the effects of FGF7 and VEGF which are stimulated by activation of adenosine receptors on dermal papilla cells.

nothing at this point does anything but "thicken up vellus hairs". androgen-affected hairs degenerate into a vellus state. so "only" thickening vellus hairs would be of great benefit. minoxidil does the same thing, as does finasteride, albeit at a slower rate. follicular neogenesis may eventually come with things like cyclopentyladenosine and proteasome inhibitors.

One issue that you havent discussed yet is about dosage and application. As far as I know in the studies they tried twice per day application (just like minoxidil)...I hope in the final product they get rid of one of the applications...´cause its a pain in the ***!!!

thanks,guys!
it seems to me that sheisido hasn't done some extensive research. i'm concerned about possible SIDE-EFFECTS. why? if it acts in a way similar to minoxidil, it can cause heart and blood pressure problems, as well as water retention.
any opinions? or known facts?

Why would you be worried about side effects? Is it a blood pressure medication?

Adenosine has been used for a long time in treating tachycardia.

Used for rapid heart beat. Did not know that. However, I don't think there would be a chance of side effects by applying the stuff topically. I don't think Japan would have approved it if there was a chance for serious side effects.

Is anyone seriously thinking of giving this a go?? I think I might as I have run out of options.

minoxidil was primarily a drug for high blood pressure (it is supposed to lower blood pressure), but it can cause irregular heart beat, water retention, chest pain etc. i have experienced irregular heart beat which lasted for 10 days. i've even done a medical heart check at a doctor-specialist. he told me all the symptoms were probably due to minoxidil. and my blood pressue was also decreased (110/75 in comparison with my normal values 120/80).

now, if adenogen exerts similar side effects, i'll avoid it.

100 people participated in the study and not one had a side effect.

I am really interested in this treatment as thickening the vellus hair would solve my problem.

Lot of peaple say that 90,-USD is too much for a bottle. But does anybody know how much per day you have to apply? Even if it is 2ml per day I would accept it in case it really is so effective.

On the site which is going to sell it you find no details about this treatment:(

I know I hope the directions for usage are on the bottle in ENGLISH. :? Although, I think it will be a twice per day application. How much I don't know? If you only use 2 ml per day it will last 75 days, not too bad!

Another question is how fast can this treatment turn your vellus hair into the terminal ones. It would be wasting lot of money to wait for it for example for 12months and then see that is does not work!

If it really can turn my vellus hair into terminal ones I will be hairy bastard then as there are milions of them around my head:)

In case it works this cure might be the thing that lot of us wait for!!!

I am quite excited and I will search for more details..

Just got an email back from the kugrow website and they said shipping and handling is included in the price. So there is no extra charges. 1 bottle will cost $87, no extra charges for the shipping.

I have yet to see any research results with this product and its really packaged well which only makes it smell of scam or at least over bousting. By the time everyone is clued in to the real situation they have already made 1 million. Don't support this product unless you at least read some research on it for the sake of not being a streight up fool.

I agree with you. I will not buy it until I see some serious data on it. Hope they will bring it soon.

I wonder is this stuff is water based. Hopefully we can use this stuff with minoxidil, without any problems or without them hindering each other.

yes, this regimen idea is very interesting. If I could locate Bismarck's clinical post I may give it a shot.
