So let's lay out a few notes:

1.) I have been on finasteride for about a year, 1mg daily u.s. Store bought pills.
2.) no sides for me at all, no sheds etc, no regrowth, I am a nw2 with naturally fine hair
3.) I am 26
4.) I have the strongest family of balding every man on my moms side is bald bald bald. My dad has perfect hair (that a**h**), literally Norwood 0-1 and shaves his head anyway. Haha. I can see my hairline starting to dip worse, and I have fine thin, straight hair.

Should I add .5 of dutasteride daily or ease off of finasteride to dutasteride? Or stay the course another 6months - year on finasteride and reassess?

I believe this is always a tough situation. If your hair hasn't changed at all and you have maintained well then ignore the rest of my comment lol. If you are worse off after a year people will tell you one of two things. 1. Give it another year, apparently studies show that finasteride shows full visible effects at 2 years instead of 1 year. OR 2. Add dutasteride/switch to dutasteride. My recommendation is to wait another 6-8 months. You are fairly young and I personally believe that dutasteride isn't 100% safe(people will disagree).

First class treatment drug is (topical) antiandrogen (androgen receptor antagonist); because it disables the action of DHT by 100% (and not only DHT!), with almost no sides (with the use of appropriate agent).
Then follows dutasteride; followed by finasteride.
Combining both 5a-reductase inhibitors and antiandrogens will not only block the action of androgens by 100%, but also route testosterone conversion mainly towards estrogens to spur hair growth (at least frontal).
Also consider the use of minoxidil, for growth.

To answer your question. You can add dutasteride once or twice a week to current. Or switch to dutasteride only with one dutasteride at least twice a week.

It seems you are still Norwood 2 a year later so why change? Did you really think finasteride would take you to Norwood 1 or even with Minoxidil for that matter? Norwood 2 to 1 is very very hard. Recovering one norwood or more can be done but juvenile hairline is another matter. Easier to go to from Norwood 3 to 2 for example.

I would stick with this. If you actually worsen, then think of adding in dutasteride once a week/RU perhaps. Minoxidil is best for regrowth.

I am in EXACTLY the same position however my hairline has actually got steadily worse and worse on finasteride. I have now added dutasteride twice a week. Keeping fingers crossed! So far no side although only been on dutasteride for three weeks.

It might be the engineer in me, or me smack dab in the middle of the age that just about every male in my family went bald I definitely am super keen about my hair. I would say I was a nw1.5 when I started now probbaly nw2. My hair line hasn't receeded farther back (I have a scar and a freckle as an awesome point of reference) but it has started to go towards the middle of my head, attaching my forelock.

truthdully I didn't really expects regrowh, but I don't want to wake up one day with my fine straight, can't do anything with hair in a strong nw3 and be like damn why didn't I use dutasteride as well. image.jpg
