I dont think there is a drug to bring down insulin levels. I believe that you eat foods that are low in glycemic index.

I think the relationship is non-causal, my guess is that the hormone levels that can cause both pattern baldness and hair growth probably also cause the increased levels of insulin.

I am getting my hairy back lasered right now and let me say that it seems very effective. After just one treatment I have gone from, "OMG thats a hairy back" to "hmm, thats not too bad, Ive seen a lot worse" ( reactions from girls ).

It probably knocked out at least half of the hairs, but its kinda patchy, some areas are almost bald ( the mid back ) where as some other areas maybe lost only 20% of their density ( the shoulders ). Im confident after 4 treatments it should be very smooth. And I wasnt considered an "ideal" candidate.

There is a drug

Diazoxide (brand name Proglycem) supresses insulin production by the pancreas. It is usually prescribed for people whose pancreas produces too much insulin causing chronic hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.

One side effect of the drug is increased hair growth in some people, although I think (not sure) the increase in hair growth tends to be body hair. I don't know the mechanism for increased hair growth.

Unless your body produces far too much insulin, this would be a very dangerous drug to take. Essentially, it creates a diabetic state in normals who take it. Heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, amputations & death are a few of the effects that might come with hair growth. hmm...

Of course it's linked! Testosterone (DHT mainly) has a strong influence on both. I really doubt it's got much to do with insulin though!!!

By inhibiting the formation of DHT, Finasteride counteracts baldness as well as body hair growth, all though the latter is most often referred to as a "side effect".

Hyperinsulinemia or high insulin levels. Exciting new research
from Harvard School of Public Health shows that men who have the
highest blood levels of insulin-like-growth factor-1 and women who
have high levels of insulin (as in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) are the
ones most likely to suffer male pattern baldness.... It still is early in
this research, but evidence is accumulating that male pattern baldness
may be caused by high levels of insulin that are produced by eating
lots of sugary and floured foods such as bakery products and pastas.
Future research will show if male pattern baldness can be prevented
by avoiding flour and sugar, eating fruits only with meals, and taking
drugs such as Glucophage and Rezulin to lower insulin levels.
Hi, I'm starting to lose my hair by diffuse thinninga bit and at the temples. Reading this I link this with eating pancakes nearly every day in my vacation, in the weekends and icecream as well. I ate this because it tastes good ofcourse and because until recently I could do it as well without getting thicker one bit. Recently though, I noticed getting fatter a bit but I'm still 80 kg for 1m86. My 2years younger brother has always been thicker than me and was also fat as a kid and he is past Norwood 3 in an advanced stage of balding. I'm certainly going to cut down my sugar intake now as most likely lots of insulin are needed to break that down. Anyway, to the point: is this kind of hairloss due to malnutrition reversible? I've recently started on minoxidil 2% just a few days ago.
