a link to hair loss and excessive body hair

Some people think body hair and hairloss are linked. This might not be the case for everyone, but research has been found which links high levels of insulin running in the body connected to hair growth on the body and hair loss on the crown. I first discovered this condition in a hair removal forum. The bottom doesn't discuss the affect of insulin on excessive body hair, but you can do more research on your own to find information on that.
---------------------------------------------------------------

Hyperinsulinemia or high insulin levels. Exciting new research
from Harvard School of Public Health shows that men who have the
highest blood levels of insulin-like-growth factor-1 and women who
have high levels of insulin (as in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) are the
ones most likely to suffer male pattern baldness.... It still is early in
this research, but evidence is accumulating that male pattern baldness
may be caused by high levels of insulin that are produced by eating
lots of sugary and floured foods such as bakery products and pastas.
Future research will show if male pattern baldness can be prevented
by avoiding flour and sugar, eating fruits only with meals, and taking
drugs such as Glucophage and Rezulin to lower insulin levels.

yeah, i'm getting a insulin resistence test done on the 17th. i had to get it done anyway because i'm going to start extensive laser hair removal done on my body, and i don't want to waste my money if all the hair comes back because I have too much insulin running in my system.

P.S.- How is that regimen working for you Axon? I'm on the same exact one, and at 7 1/2 months, haven't noticed any new hair growth at the crown.

lef.org says "avacodo sugar extract" lowers insulin levels. It was mentioned in the article about weight loss that O posted before. It's on backorder for now since it's in high demand for helping weight loss.

Working really well. Some hairline recovery (took 10 months) and some real nice filling in the crown. Looking to finish the crown off.

I'm only using minoxidil once a day, btw.

ha, it's ironic that a kind of sugar would lower insulin levels. i also heard they developed a type of "candy", or maybe it was gum that lowers it. they also have some drugs out in the market, but at $10 a week, it's a pretty hefty price to pay in the long run.

axon, good to hear the great results. why did you drop your usage to one ml a day?

Type 1 diabetics - Usually is a juvenile onset. The pancreas either stops producing enough insulin or the insulin is ineffective. Requires daily insulin injections for life.

Type 2 diabetics - Usually people over 35 that are overweight. They have a good pancreas, but due to the fact they eat a sugary/starchy diet and have constantly had elevated insulin levels, their insulin receptors become dulled causing blood glucose to rise. These people can control with diet and oral pancreatic stiumulants(pills)

Funny how my hair has gotten so much better since I went on a low carb diet and lost 35lbs :freaked:

Ams -

Could you provide the data surrounding this study, like where you found it, and if possible, the journal it was published in, etc? Its very interesting information but we can't do anything with it as a free-standing paragraph of text. Anyone could have written it and potenially made the whole thing up. We're interested in researching it further and possibly doing an article on it in our newsletter, but will need some hard facts behind it for it to publishable. Most of our users will expect that.

If its just an article you saw somewhere, if you could point us to those who wrote it so we can get the info from them, that would be great!

Hairloss talk, I will ask the moderator of the hair removal site for some note worthy refrences. She has a lot of knowledge on the subject of insulin resistence, since many of her patients are insulin resistent. What I pasted was off the first site I found.

Thanks Ams! Its always fun to ask people where they get their data, and its sometimes fun (in a mean way) when they go "um.. uh... i just heard it somewhere" .... lol ...

Im sure she's got all the info. If you get it could you Private Message it to me here to make sure I see it? Otherwise I may miss it.

believe it or not there is a lot of info on the subject of insulin resistance vs hairloss on the website of that weird man Tom Hagerty. the one with the scalp exercises.

its kind of odd the correlations between these things. even the hearsay stuff like when people say beer induces sheds while stopping drinking hurt their hair. and that bums have full heads of hair. apparently alchohol increases insulin sensitivity at mild to moderate levels. probably heavy also but they dont want to make that a public statement. lots of info on pubmed.

hope that link works, not sure it will though. interesting stuff
