Wigs used for medical purposes, such as for those experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy, require special care to ensure they are clean and safe to wear. Here are some steps to properly wash a wig used for medical purposes:

Step 1: Fill a Sink or Basin with Cool Water Fill a sink or basin with cool water and add a small amount of mild shampoo or wig shampoo. Swirl the water gently to create suds.

Step 2: Gently Wash the Wig Place the wig in the sink or basin and gently swirl it around, making sure to avoid rubbing or twisting the hair. Use your fingers to gently work the shampoo into the wig, paying special attention to the areas that come into contact with the scalp.

Step 3: Rinse the Wig Once the wig has been thoroughly washed, rinse it with cool water until all of the shampoo is removed.

Step 4: Condition the Wig After rinsing, fill the sink or basin with clean, cool water and add a small amount of wig conditioner. Swirl the water gently to distribute the conditioner. Place the wig in the water and let it soak for a few minutes.

Step 5: Rinse the Wig Again Once the wig has soaked for a few minutes, remove it from the water and rinse it with cool water until all of the conditioner is removed.

Step 6: Gently Dry the Wig To dry the wig, gently blot it with a towel to remove excess water. Avoid rubbing or twisting the hair, as this can cause damage. Place the wig on a wig stand or mannequin head and allow it to air dry completely.

Additional Tips:
  • It is important to avoid using hot water, as it can damage the fibres of the wig.
  • Use a wig brush or wide-tooth comb to gently detangle the wig before washing.
  • Avoid using hair dryers, as they can damage the fibres of the wig.
  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for washing and caring for your specific wig.
