Quick recap. Noticed my hair was thinning on the crown over 2 years ago. Started on 5% Kirkland minoxidil. Had absolutely amazing results within 5 months. My hair was thicker than ever. Continuous use 2 times a day, around month 7 I started to shed again. Carried on with minoxidil and around the year mark I was still shedding. I was quite alarmed so I jumped on finasteride. The next 6 months has been pure hell.....

So, today Mark's month 6 on finasteride. (Still applying minoxidil twice a day) My hair looks the worst I've ever seen it in my life. Shedding hundreds of hair a day. I don't know why but the past few weeks my hair has shed like crazy, falling out in clumps. Looks like sh*t. Cant even style it anymore. Can see my scalp. Receding like hell. Lost density all over my head. Cant be arsed anymore.. I'll keep taking it for the time being but I'm starting to look at wigs now.

I've noticed absolutely no regrowth anywhere. No nee hairs anywhere. Just keeps getting thinner and thinner, and eventually falling. Never been so depressed in my life.

All honesty, I think finasteride has made my hair worse. Wish I never started it. It works for some, but not all. In my opinion, I wouldn't reccomend it. Anyone else been in this situation?

That's the shedding phase of the first 3-6 months. Yes it can wreck it before growing it back. Probably best to speak with a dermatologist.

Was this the case in your situation? I've read through so many threads about being on finasteride and it just completely wrecking their hair and never recovering. I hope you're right though :(

Do you have scalp inflammation? You should add shampoo against it.

Do you microneedling?

Same thing happened to me and my hair has never recovered, only gotten worse on what seems to be a daily basis. Not the wonder drug that alot of people swear by

Yeah, dutasteride decimated my hair, but things started improving after around 7-8 months.
You'll always shed with minoxidil. Minoxidil synchs your hair cycles, so they'll shed and regrow at the same time

Do you take minoxidil? If its just finasteride, keep going.
Its the reason i hate minoxidil. Endless shedding

Do you have any itching/burning/tingling too on your scalp? Are you losing from the back and sides too?

Yes, I was on minoxidil for a year until I started finasteride. I had amazing results from minoxidil within 3 months. By month 5 I was shedding again and it never stopped. Then after a year of being on minoxidil, that's when I added finasteride. Still continuing with the minoxidil aswell, now its just all gone downhill :(

After six months you should be seeing some results. If it's still getting worse you need to switch to something stronger, i.e. dutasteride.

Was the itching etc present before you started using finasteride? Sounds like you've had a similar reaction to me unfortunately. Try using head and shoulders for the itching, it helps me. My hair is now trash after using finasteride. It's definitely increased the speed of my hairloss and given me horrible side effects which haven't gone away after ceasing treatment. And my hair quality is just dead now.

Are you still using finasteride
