43 and thinning for years - too late for minoxidil?

43 years old and have actually had thinning hair for a good 10 years now. Never thought much of it until a year ago when it got too thin to avoid. Been on 1.25 proscar for 1 year now with no results and my hair is the worst it has ever been.

I'm really running out of hope and am just wondering if at my age and stage in the thinning process would minoxidil give me any results? My scalp is pretty much visible throughout the entire top male pattern baldness region. I'm really scared of starting and loosing the rest from a shed and not recovering.

On the other hand, maybe loosing it would be a good thing and help me get on with my life. :dunno:[attachment=0:qohxmyr2]DSCN0148.JPG[/attachment:qohxmyr2]

This photo was taken after my best attempt to hide things with a little bit of the ugly comb over attempt. This is as good as it gets and looks much worse throughout the day :puke:

Unfortunately the big 3 does not work as well on people over 40 but its pretty much all you can use if you want to fight hair loss. You would think it would be easier to fight since your hair loss tends to be less aggressive over 40 but unfortunately that is not the case. You look like you have diffuse thinning so minoxidil could help with that situation. Propecia supposedly does not work that well for age related thinning. You may want to try Proctor's products because they call help with ALL types of hair loss. What does your hair look like if you comb it back? What Norwood level are you at? My hair is diffusely thinning in a similar pattern to yours.

if someone told me i'd still have hair like yours at 48 i'd honestly be the happiest man on the planet. I'm 24 and my hairs far worse than that already.
give the minnox a go, just be prepared for it to get a little worse before it gets better, makesure u stick it out for a year atleast. and if that doesn't work then just think of the late teenagers early twenty year olds on here, i think you've been really lucky.

You already minoxidil before, so why are you asking such a question? Did it not help you before?

I attempted Rogaine for only a few weeks prior to getting on these forums and researching everything. That was before I started finasteride.

I learned then just how much of a pain in the *** it was to apply and how ridiculous it made my hair look. Then add to it, the new knowledge I obtained about crazy sheds, potential bloating face and dark eyes and long term "gotcha by the balls" use required, I decided to avoid it for as long as possible. finasteride was just a "pop a pill" process. I also watched a friend give it a serious shot only to see it take away 70% of his hair in a 6 month span and he never recovered. So, ya, I have some serious doubts about it.

If I do give it a serious shot it will be as a last resort effort prior to shaving. Just thought I would start getting some opinions first, not questions.

I just looked at some photos from a year ago and it does appear that finasteride has helped some. I think I will just stick with the finasteride only a bit longer.

I haven't figured out minoxidil yet (I haven't used it) but sometimes I think that people that shed crazy on it were going to lose that hair no matter what and minoxidil isn't gonna help it grow back.
