34 And Looking For Suggested Treatments Please

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some advice please.

I'm 34 and have been slowly receeding for about 12 years. I always had a high hairline but it was always very thick.

In the last 6 months I've noticed it's becoming more obvious and is limiting the hairstyles I can have. I guess I'm NW2 but what's your opinion?

I don't use any treatments at the moment. Finasteride scares me a little as I don't like the thought of the bodies chemistry being messed with. I'm not too worried if I go bald at 50 but would like to keep as much as I can until then.

What are your thoughts or suggestions. Thanks

You have good hair for your age, finasteride could save your hair forever if you respond to it. If you are worried about side effects go with minoxidil. Also you could use natural dht blockers called Saw Palmetto and Fenugreek, some people have had good success with those. Good luck :)

Thanks.

I friend was suggesting to just wait for it to be bad enough for a FUE and then do that without drugs. Any thoughts?

Any suggested hairstyles that go with this type of receeding?

Where would you say I am on the Norwood scale?

Probably a Norwood 2.5 man. Your current hairstyle looks great with your recession i wouldn't change it. You could opt for a longer style with less height. Your friend makes a good suggestion, your loss is very slow so a transplant without meds could be justified, however you would be chasing it down the road forever without finasteride as your hair loss will continue to progress.

Don't get a hair transplant they just don't look 100% natural, so what's the point? Your hair looks good for your age. I follow the same pattern but I'm 27, receding for 6-7 years. I'll probably be where you are by your age and I'm cool with it. That's a natural look at that age.

Ive seen alot of hair transplants that look very natural!

The only way for a hair transplant to look natural is if you have 1. Low contrast from hair to scalp 2. Medium caliber hair that's dense packed, in which case you burn through too many grafts and later down the road you won't look natural as you lose more hair. If you have thick hair you use less grafts for more coverage but your hairline won't look natural because the hairs are too thick. Someone with thick hair still has thin hair along the hairline, hair transplants can't achieve this.

Do you think with finasteride I'd get some thickening/regrowth. Maybe take me back to an NW2 or is that highly unlikely?

As it's been slow so far, is it likely to stay slow, or should I expect it to speed up at some point?

It will probably stay slow well into your 50s. People that have very slow receding hairline tend to keep it vs people that start balding later in life with aggressive hair loss. It's highly doubtful you'll get regrowth but it will insure slowing hair loss down even slower

In person?
Yup, my brothers dad ( we only have same mom ) had a transplant done on his crown and hairline and he is pretty much Norwood 1 again. He isn't on treatments but he is early 60s so he should be good from now on, lucky bastard!! Lol

The best you can hope for with finasteride is a halt to your hair loss. Regrowth is considered rare.

I dont know, i dont see him often but it was probably about 5 years ago.
I personally don't think they look natural and think they're a dark scam industry praying on young adults, but that's just me. To have a stable hair transplant without the need for concealer is very, very rare. Trust me if it was effective I would have one right now. I always feel bad for people 20-35 that get them done, try to educate where I can

Thanks for the info guys.

I think transplants maybe only suit people with thin hair where the donor hair is. For me my side and back hair is ver thick so probably out of the question then.

Do you think as it's fairly slow, Mix would be enough to slow things to a point where it's negligible loss each year?
