Hi, for the last 6 months I have noticed that my hair is receding. (This was mainly due to not being able to style it the same as I used to). I'm worried as I feel I am too young to be losing my hair.

So my question to you experts is, from these photos, how bad really is it? And does a receding hairline keep going, or does it sometimes stop at a certain point? And finally, any advice?

Thanks in advance :)

Yes you are losing your hair. You can see you´ve lost a bit on the temple region. I would highly recommend finasteride. I too suffer from a receding hairline at young age (19) and have been able to keep all my hair and grow back miniaturized hairs.
finasteride works for alot of people I would look into it.

You are approaching a NW3. You look just like Chris Evans/Captain America.

Thanks for your responses, I think I am going to consider a transplant if it continues to get worse

Norwood 2,5 going on a Norwood 3 . Unfortunately transplant doesnt work that way . With this amount of recession at a age 22 , ethical doctor will refuse you . You need to stabilize your loss first . Jump on propecia asap bro .
I know the feel , i am 23 and Norwood 2,5 too .

This. You need to stabilize before a transplant since you don't want to recede further behind the newly transplanted hairs. Whether you stabilize naturally or with meds, it's a must or else you might end up looking like a monk bro

your crown is still thick ? you just have receding temple ?
Yes I think the rest of my hair is relatively thick, it is only receding as shown. Is this likely to stop naturally? Or will it just continue now until I go really thin and bald? Thanks

Its a lottery man.male pattern baldness is not affected by only one gene,in fact its combination of genes which you get from both parents. There was research in which some people got that balding gene on X chromosome, but never got bald cause they didnt get genes which resulted in high androgen dht sensitivity.

Thanks for posting dude, I'm relieved to see that I'm not on my own at this age. Did you find that it has happened all of a sudden? And does anybody tell you it's noticeable at work or anything? I keep being told that I'm being too critical of my hairline, but to me mine is getting bad!

does the fact that my uncle have aggressive balding mean i can have it too ?

You can get it with no hairloss in the family. It can skip generations. If your uncle has it there is a chance his siblings have a similar composition of genes that his siblings had that were passed to you. Noone really knows at this point other than it seems to come through the mothers side stronger, although it is inherited from both.

Yeah, sucks to be balding man and at such young age.To me it didnt happen suddenly.I never had good temples since being kid(like Wayne Rooney when he was kid),was norwood 2 since i remember myself. It got worse during puberty, when testosterone spiked like crazy..My history of balding is bad too.My mathernal grandfather was full bald ,my father is norwood 4,but for some reason my mathernal uncle is like Norwood 2.5 aged 45.It really is unpredictable. How are your temples and top of the scalp.Any signs of thining or just temples?

My Grandad on my Dad's side has a full head of hair and is nearly 90! However my Dad has receded quite significantly and is now balding on the back. And my Grandad on my Mum's side had a very similar hairline to me at my age.

The rest of my hair seems fine, I don't think it is thinning. I'm hoping that it won't recede any further and will stay in this state for a while (as I can just about deal with it). This is why I asked if that is possible :) I've only really noticed it the last 6 months, but since then it really seems to be going! I'm not sure whether that is because I'm paying more attention to it or not.

Are you planning on taking anything for yours? Or will you just leave it?
I'm dubious about propecia as I've read it can effect testosterone production and sex life, which I don't want. As I do alot of exercise/weights.

Yeah, your case is very similar to mine.My other hair is thick, only temples are problematic.I cant take propecia for medical reasons,so i will leave it like it is.Hope it will last for some time.Maybe it will slow down who knows. My dad got around Norwood 3 at his late 20s and it stayed like this until recent years. He is now 55 years old and his front started to receed and is now at the same level as temples. So its possible.Btw. as someone said you really look like Chris Evans (Captain America) and with some muscles and beard you will look awesome even without hair IMO.Good luck.
