Over the past few years I have noticed that my hairline has been receding, yet I erroneously thought nothing of it until a few months back when I realized it had gotten pretty bad. I have seen a dermatologist who claims there may be hope, regardless of the presence of family hair loss. I have been on propecia now for 2.5 months with no sides, other than a major increase in shedding. I want to get other's opinions on what I should do. I know the rule of thumb is to cut your hair short if you are balding, but in my case it often looks worse than if it were long. I know this bc I've had people comment on my hair when I cut my it so short, not in a rude way, but not complimentary. For the past few years my temples were covered by thicker hair above it, casting the illusion of a full head of hair. However, since the recession has gotten worse more of my forehead is showing and covering the temple areas with thicker hair from above is getting more difficult. I know I definitely don't want to go shaved bald, but I feel like buzzing it down low could be an option. My individual hairs are thin, but for the most part there is some density where there is hair (crown is pretty damn thick still). Since beginning propecia 2.5 months ago I have noticed small blonde hairs sprouting up around the hairline, some of them nearing an inch long now. Is there hope? Should I wait for 6-12 months to pass before making final judgement? All I really want is for the upper regions of my temples that are patchy to fill back in, I could care less if I had a perfect hairline (considering it's too late for that, and damn near impossible bc of my age).
Below are links to pictures, sorry for the poor quality. They were taken after exercising, so my hair is damp with sweat. I am getting my hair trimmed on Monday, so ignore the odd shape of the hair. (Speaking of which, recently I have had to get more length off the sides and back since they grow so much quicker than the hair near the front. The past two haircuts I have barely trimmed any off the top)

Thanks, sorry for the long post

Most people are advised to give finasteride around a year to start seeing the full benefit of finasteride. It took about that long for the blond hairs to turn darker :)

Well, it's definitely androgenetic alopecia (hair line receding defines that) and the only thing currently that will stop it is the assortment of medications familiar with people here.
