Hey guys,

I'm a 19 year old dude suffering from a quite aggressive form of male pattern baldness, unfortunately. I have exactly the same hair as my dad once had (and he lost his hair at a very young age as well.)
I'd say I'm between NW2-3 right now. I still have quite thick hair so it is not very noticable yet, however the rate at which I lose hair is quite alarming.
My dad was a NW4A at age 30. He basically lost all the hairs on the front of his head before his crown hair started falling out.

Now the best time to intervene would be at this very moment. I have started taking 0.25mg propecia every other day because I don't have a lot of money and this allows me to survive 8 months with 30 pills of propecia.

I wasn't too scared of the side effects, I did notice some slightly weaker erections (I guess?) but absolutely no loss in libido, I'm still horny as **** so that's all good.

I have started taking the 0.25mg EOD dose back in April. 2 months further I'm not sure what to think. Everytime I get out of the shower there is jsut a ****load of hair everywhere, however they seem to be mainly thinner, smaller hairs. Is this just a progression of male pattern baldness or am I shedding already?

Is 0.25mg EOD even worth taking?

I'd like to hear your opinions.

Very kind regards from me :)

Of course .25 is better than nothing. It still stops a pretty good amount of DHT its just that 1mg is stronger.

If I were you graker, I would just take Finasteride everyday. Also, I would look into getting generic Proscar since it's a lot cheaper than the actual Propecia brand from Merck.

I started to lose hair pretty aggressively for like a few months when I was 18. When I was 19 it continued at a pretty slower rate. I just started treating it last week at almost 21. Keep doing whatever it is your doing, I don't have any recommendations in terms of meds cause I've only been on for a week. I did notice that the very cheap saw palmetto 1500 mg/day helped me (when I was 19-20 it was a slower rate) but this could have just been a natural time where my hair lost was programmed to stabilize a bit.

I also agree especially since you said it was aggressive.

That may be an ineffective dose I think. They say the minimum effective dose is 0.20 mg per day, which is 80% effective as 1 mg per day. He is taking 0.25 EOD which works out less daily. Having said that 0.25 will suppress his DHT for days to castrated levels so depends how you look at it. I would take at least half a pill of propecia daily, like 0.5 mg. Even 1 mg 3 times a week.

Hey guys,

Thanks for your answers. Would you say that 0.25mg EOD is such a low dose that it's close to being pointless in preventing hair loss?

Also I'm sorry, I'm taking "Proscalpin" (just some general finasteride brand appearantly). It is quite cheap indeed. Right now I'm a little short on money so I still can't spend fortunes on it but okay.

Definitely not pointless. There's just.... A lot of crap that's weird with finasteride. For instance, I was still shedding pretty bad all the way up to the point I began taking 1 mg ED. Started with .5 eod and worked my way up over three months. The terminal hair stopped shedding within a week or two, and now I'm down to maybe 20 hairs a day on month 3.5, all vellus. Could just be the time-frame I've been taking it, but who knows. What I will say is this, don't stop taking it, whatever the dose. Your current dose may not be strong enough, but, in the very least, you're allowing your body to adjust to it. Give it a year, but try to get that dosage up. Not sure how you get it, but there are sites that sell the generic for dirt cheap. Anyway, good luck!

If you are losing your hair at 19 then .25 mg eod is NOT gonna help you unless all you're looking for is to slow down your hair loss by like 15%. Even on 1mg/day I wouldn't be surprised if you still went bald, just at a slower pace.

I don't know about your country, but here in America you can get 30 tablets of 5mg finasteride for $11 from a Costco pharmacy.

You need to try harder if you want to save your hair. You should be on a full clinical dose of a 5AR and an effective topical anti androgen at the LEAST. That's how you're gonna maintain.

And whatever you do DO NOT buy finasteride online without a prescription. Just don't. You'd not only be gambling with say $15, you'd be gambling with your hair, which is priceless and which you pretty much cannot get back. It's not worth it.

Hey, sorry for my late response

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately things are a lot more expensive here in Holland. Still I'm convinced there should be at least some kind of result. I'm just not sure when to know it's becoming better. Right now it's not. I might indeed move to a higher dose but I need to get some more money first. :)

I'm taking Proscalpin right now, from what I've read it's just generic propecia and there's not really anything wrong with it. I'm definately noticing one of the side effects (watery semen) so I'm pretty sure it's more than just a placebo :)

Are you that broke that you cant afford 1mg of of finasteride a day. Online pharms sell it for pretty cheap and most of them are reliable I would say

However, if 1mg a day would save you then I would say youre fine with 0.25mg

.

It could be too early to tell but from what I've seen on these forums people who thin out early like you and me have a harder time maintaining on finasteride... which i hope is not true

I've upped my dose to 0.5mg eod to finish my current batch and am then acquiring 5mg proscar to continue with 1.25mg.

I've been 5 months into those low doses and haven't really seen any improvement, but judging frmo old pictures my hairline hasn't gotten worse either. I'm still losing a lot of hair but it is definately slowing down a bit.

I took some pics of my hair after coming out of the shower and drying it, I combed it upwards a bit so that you can see the receded temple. It looks a bit ridiculous lol but you can see the recession.

I would also have erectile disfunction while faping or having sex and in the same focusing that i am on finasteride thinking about possibility of sides. Do you have sex frequently or just fap mode?
