11 Months On Finasteride. Should I Quit?

Making a new post. 25 years old, wasn't losing hair too rapidly before finasteride, was like a Norwood 2.5. Now I'm a Norwood 4.. i don't have pics from baseline but i have pics to show the progression of my loss. I have one from 4 months ago.

I have been non stop shedding. I shed the hairs and they don't come back.. then i shed more.. and more.. and more... I've probably receded a full norwood in just a couple months.

NO ONE IN MY FAMILY LOST THEIR HAIR LIKE THIS. I'VE GONE THROUGH MY FAMILY HISTORY.

Should i just accept that I'm a non responder? Not doing minoxidil and hair transplants are out of the question.

Stay on finasteride, buzz it down to stubble. It'll look better than what that is.

Get on dutasteride, and maybe even a topical anti androgen to boot. Stop watching p**rn, and start exercising. That's some aggressive balding there.

I'm actually 195lb 12% bodyfat. I have a killer physique and i work out all the time. And i don't even watch it, not my thing personally

In that case cut out the steroids. If finasteride doesn't stop your hair loss something is wrong. For 99% of people it works for the first year.

I've heard diet can cause hair loss. Like if your microbiome is infected from eating poorly. Is this a thing or is it just pseudo science

Ok, well I'm just throwing stuff out there because there is something unusual here that is causing your situation. Get your hormone levels checked. Do you have any vitamin deficiencies? Too much vitamin A? You don't just continue to lose hair in the first year on finasteride unless something is going on besides your DHT levels.

Got my DHT checked. Normal range is 15-45 and mine is 10. Super low dht

Yeah, I wouldn't expect your DHT to be high considering finasteride isn't doing anything for you. Did you check your TSH?

Last i checked my thyroid was normal.

Do you think i might be one of those late responders? Because i have been shedding non stop since january and it became massive about 2 months ago

No, that's nearly a year. Even though your DHT is good, you could still benefit from switching to dutasteride and virtually eliminating it. What is your testosterone like? If your other thyroid hormones, particularly T4 are good, and your ferritin levels then it's going to be tough to figure out what is going on with your hair. Maybe go ahead and start supplementing vitamin D, folic acid, MSM, and biotin. Those can't hurt, and may help. I assume you're not on any medications that could be causing hair loss.

I take biotin and i have access to dutasteride. I'm scared of more shedding though..

I would stick with it.

The thing is finasteride will not regrow hair. If you were lossing hair and started fina you would stop more damage but not reverse it. Damage is done.

Why no minoxidil? minoxidil will grow new hair so one stops further damage one grows some new hairs (if you are lucky).

Duta is stronger finasteride, are you sure you want to do that?

And if that's true then how come people worse than me have had regrowth?

I am not sure if people really do get hair back from fina alone most people do both fina and minoxidil.

You can take oral minoxidil instead of topical.

I can't understand how fina could in anyway make your hair worse. Its one of the best dht blockers you can get

Have you seen a dermatologist? Have you seen a hair loss specialist or surgen? Getting your scalp checked for any other issues would be a good idea, i just wouldnt stop fina if you could help it as it may make the situation worse.

Everyone I have ever known to take this drug has still become bald on it.

It all depends how aggressive your hair loss is. Generally speaking, once your hairs are quite miniaturized, finasteride won't be able to save them.

I speak from experience as someone on the big 3 + dermarolling. It is very hard to recover heavily miniaturized hairs, only way is really a transplant or some tranny drugs.

Yes I have seen a derm and she diagnosed me with classic male pattern baldness. I have atopic dermatitis and I take Dupixent. I went to hair club and they told me to buy a laser cap, so they obviously don't know sh*t and just want money. That laser sh*t is BS.

Well I wasn't losing my hair too rapidly before finasteride, and then it sped up like crazy. The non stop shedding for 11 months. My hair wasn't that heavily minaturized in january but I've lost so much more.. Haven't even maintained.

It is possible just highly unlikely, look at this guys results from finasteride alone https://www.hairlossexperiences.com/threads/true-dorin-transplant-or-propecia.1893/
