Hello all,

I have been on finasteride for a little over 11 months now. I also use Keteconzole 2% 3x a week. I haven’t really noticed much changes. I get a extremely dry/flaky/itchy/dandruff scalp during the months of November-April, and then from June-October my hair looks a lot healthier, can anyone comment on this?

I also need opinions on whether my recession has continued or halted. From what I’ve noticed and seen I think my left temple (right side in the photos due to camera projections) has receded further a little, do you think so as well? At this point how much more can I expect from finasteride if anything, my hair hasn't gotten thicker or thinner, I think its remained pretty consistent. I also circled a freckle/red spot on the right side of my temple as I use that to gauge how much farther it has receded. Would you put me at a norwood 3?

The photos with a more pale/light skin are baseline. The photos with a more tan complexion are post 11 months.

Any and all responses are greatly appreciated as I know you could be doing other things with your time

your hair looks good ... with finasteride the only thing you can expect is that it maintains what you have, minoxidil does not only keep growing new hair dependent on it

thx for the reply. I didn’t understand what u were saying about minoxidil, but regardless I dont wanna indulge in something so routine and time draining.

if my 60yr father has the same exact recession as me however with diffused thinning in a horseshoe pattern am I sorta likely to maintain with finasteride for a long time considering im 21?

I have been using finasteride since I was 22 and now I am almost 29 and I still have good hair ... also according to studies the effect of finasteride lasts 10 years

Did you have fine or thick hair quality when starting? Also, what norwood were you when you started?

It looks good. I would say you will maintain what you have.

Figured, if it doesnt change at all in 2/3years considering a small hair transplant because styling this fine *** hair has always been an issue since I was a kid. ☹️

That's not a NW3. Look at me if you want to see what a NW2,5-3 looks like.

Well I certainly think my situation is at least a 2.5. Saw your photos, you quite literally have the same amount if not less recession.

Added two more pics. Am I really tripping that hard or is this not a clear NW3? @DoctorHouse @Ollie

Dude look at my newer pics where my hair is wet and combed back. I definitely have more recession. My hair just hides it very well. I honestly don't see you as a NW3 yet. Maybe if you also make pics with wet hair it's a different story.

These last two pics do look like there is more recession going on than I originally thought in your case.

I’d say you’re closer to a nw2 than 3. Whilst you haven’t seen obvious changes you may well experience them to come . I can’t remember the exact figure but 40 ish % saw visual improvements in the first year and 60% by the end of the second.

You’ve at very least got maintenance which is what matters.

Yeah let's hope it doesn't get worse. I do lose hair still but strangely most of it is in my donor area or at the sides of my head. Nothing on front, mid scalp or crown. Especially from the back of my head I can sometimes pull out easily 4-7 hairs. Makes me think I have something else going on in addition to my male pattern baldness.
