Cause the hair grows in a swirl and its harder to keep straight, thats my guess. Its a lot easier for the hair in your cowlick to become messy/unkept if its longer
Yeah it just looks like low density fine hair under a harsh flash which makes you see more scalp. I doubt its male pattern baldness since it looks thin on the sides too
