Lightening a hair system is totally risky. The hair is already not in a healthy state and to bleach it (lighten) will only damage it more. You can't just put a lighter dye on it, you have to bleach.

I looked at the NHI site about this which did say it was effective, but all of the photos shown were on men with quite a bit of hair at the start of the testing. So, maybe to use to fill in a slightly thinning scalp, but to really grow the hair you had as a kid, I don't think so.
